One of the earliest albums I bought was The Lightning Seeds - Dizzy Heights . Fantastic album, or so I thought at the time. I listened to it a couple of times the other day for the first time in yeeeaars and it was an enjoyable nostalgic listen surprisingly. Most of it is (sub)standard britpop pish though. I think the first album I ever bought though was Morning Glory and the first single was D'You Know What I Mean, still got it somewhere.

First cassette I ever bought was Spice Girls - Mama. Fucking shameful but I really loved the Spice Girls once.
The first albums I bought on cassette were as a direct result of a holiday to Turkey. At the airport I bought Hanson's first album. Thought it was great, but, while in Turkey I got Morning Glory on cassette and there was no going back, really. I hold that purchase responsible for changing my music tastes forever. Because of it, I started exploring new music. Cast, Ocean Colour, The Beatles and of course, Definitely Maybe. The Borth's older brother had it all on CD so we used to sneak into his room when he wasn't in and listen to them while playing Sensible Soccer or Championship Manager. Big times.
First CD purhcase was Be Here Now, though.

This, apart from for "fuck" read "pull her hair run away" as I was about 10. From the age of 7 or 8 onwards I got a load of stick at school as I was into the Beatles and not much else whilst everyone else was listening to Take That or Boyzone. Even when I listened to the Boyz around SOTSOG era no one was up for it as they all liked Blink182 and Korn.

I remember Nine Days, I atcually saw the Offspring live THIS IS THE STORY OF A GIRL, WHO CRIED A RIVER AND DROWNED THE WHOLE WORLD i remember constantly watching mtv hoping that song came by. by the time i became frustrated with it i decided to buy the single. as for the offspring, i was 9 years old at the time but a huge huge fan 2nd album i bought was metallica - metallica. it's kind of funny because a little later i listened to stuff like limp bizkit, eminem, cypress hill and stuff like that this thread made me realise how much ones taste in music can change and develop. even though it's pretty logical people change their taste in music from when they were 9 it's a real trip down memory lane

My taste through the years:
First music I can ever recall liking was a tape my uncle gave to me when I was maybe 5 or 6, it was Micheal Jackson, I think like a 'best of' from the Thriller & Bad records, I guess pretty much the whole world heard those records but as an introduction to music that is a pretty good one.
Didn't show a great deal of interest in music for a few years after that, my dad got into collecting old vinyl at the bootsale of 50's rock n roll & old ska/reggae records which I enjoyed hearing, that christmas probably maybe 7 or 8 I got my first walkman with a double tape of 50's hits which I loved.
In '91 I got into my first rock band, Guns 'n Roses, they had the two use your illusion LP's out which my mym had bought but I stole them off her quickly but then they did that Paris gig in front of 27 million people & it blew me away, soon after I had half naked posters of AXL & Slash all over my room, surprised my mother wasn't worried. So I was obsessed with them & only them until Nirvana came along. I watched the '92 mtv video awards & they did Lithium when Krist threw his bass in the air and it came back down and smashed him on the head which I found so funny I watched it about 20 times until I liked the song then went out and bought my first CD with my own money. Got into a few other bands soon after, mostly metal/heavy stuff, had quite a few iron maiden records then various bits by metalica, megadeath, alice cooper (hair metal era) & a best of Aerosmith. Kurt Cobain killed himself in 94 when I was about 11 then I kind of lost all interest in music & only give a shit about watching & playing football 24 hours a day. I remember really liking don't look back in anger & Some might say when they came out but really I had no interest in hearing music anymore. By the time be here now came out I got into Oasis but I'm pretty sure I bought morning glory first, anyway that was the turning point, I went up to Virgin megastore in tottenham court road & bought all the singles, used to listen to cum on feel the noise about 72 times a day. I wish I had lastfm around this time it would of been quite funny.
Oasis lead to ocean colour scene, OCS lead to Weller, Weller led to the jam, once I got into the Jam I got into trying out music rather than just one band
which eventually led to Shit Horse.
