Great pop song. Love the middle bit (17.56 - 18.47) The rest is also okay.

Started listening to Rodriguez in order to warm up before seeing that documentary, but I'm surprised at the quality of this, it's envolving me gently as a casual conversation with an old friend.

His first album is fucking amazing. I downloaded it shortly after seeing the documentary and was shocked how good it was. The second record is very disappointing after hearing the first, I like parts but the debut is where its at. Hope to see him this summer.

He's doing Primavera, last week I didn't know a single thing about him and now it seems he's everywhere...

The Hives - Tyrannosaurus Hives
If you could pick up any of these songs and insert it on nearly any album by any other garage band, it would easily get better. One after another gets a little tiresome though.

Today "Tune Grief" by Stephen Malkmus came on random on my ipod, and I couldn't put my finger on what the fuck it was, but it sounded like an absurdly good Libertines song. Then after it, You're My Waterloo started to sound

New Manics album, Rewind the Film.
It's very different to any of their other albums, but actually really good.
You may have heard the promo single Rewind the Film (which has Richard Hawley on lead vocals, and JDB on 2 short sections only), and the first single proper Show me the wonder, which was a bouncy, horn-tinged upbeat number. The album is closer in tone to the title track; very sedate, defeatist, resigned.
As holy as the soil that buries your skin has Nicky Wire on lead vocals, but before you run off to find some errant chopsticks to shove into your ear cavities, know this: it's a gentle song that suits his ability, and the relatively lush arrangement masks his pretty weak voice. This song along with the subsequent 3 ways to see despair are my favourites at the moment (the latter the only one with the classic Manics electric guitar sound - worth a listen is the demo, with a creepy kids choir).
As ever there are some clunky Nicky Wire lyrics - 3 ways to see despair is almost ruined by "I am as tired as John Lennon sang, conveying exhaustion like no-one else can" - but the arrangements and vocals, including guest vocalists Cate Le Bon and Lucy Rose, more than make up for them.

Just realized this fantastic slice of my 90s came from a Spanish band.

Ariel Pink - Early Live Recordings pitchfork.com/advance/305-early-live-recordings/Doubt I'll ever listen to it again, but there are a lot of good ideas in there. The underdevelopment of the songs is part of the charm but the truth is it flows nicely.

CCR - Effigy
Had never listened to this one before. It uncannily sounds like something from Nirvana's MTV unplugged, tune.

I don't listen to songs I listen to albums.
Earlier it was All Things Must Pass, now I feel like some David Axelrod.

Well, sorry, in fact I was listening to Willy and the Poor Boys but I just felt like highlighting that song for that reason.
