Brad, what do you think of the new Bon Iver? I've heard it 4 times & I think it's incredibly shit. Everybody is going mad over it. The last track sounds like phil collins ffs. Seems to me like all the critics missed the big bumming the first time round when they should of given it so have gone all out 5 stars for his new album & everybody has bought into the idea that it's actually good.

Well, I won't lie I'm disappointed with it - I certainly don't think its shit but its a disappointment after For Emma. That is one of my favourite records of the last few years - the last track is awful, a few average tracks and about half i quite like. Half of those listens were for the 1st album, so I've only heard the new one a couple of times mind. I'm willing to give it another couple though

yeah only listened to new bon iver once but its nowhere near the same league as the debut. last song is atrocious and theres a few others not far off either. im hoping it'll be a grower but initially very disappointing compared to for emma...

You are too generous with your ratings jp. Make a stand, show the people what you really think of it.
Also, I'd never seen pictures of him before until today, he was wearing a beanie hat and looked like a complete loser. Put me right off him.

yeah i found it a hard album to judge. i think if it had been his debut i would have considered it a pretty good effort but for emma was one of the absolute best albums of the last decade so this as a followup seems hugely disappointing. i still rank it as a 6.5/7 out of 10 though as it has its moments, just nowhere near the level of the debut.

Think I went for 3.5 initially.
Certainly is a 6-7/10 record. As JP said, if it was a debut I'd probably have more time for it. If the direction he is going in is Beth / Rest, then RIP

What do you think of the new arctic monkeys kev? It's alright but i'm not blown away, I must admit i've never been that huge on them, I've always dipped in and out really, I think Humbug is my favourite album of theirs and I've actually been spending some time reaquainting myself with that album over the past week after not really touching it for a while, but the newies doesn't stand up to that yet for me.

Rediscovred the Small Faces this week. For some reason I've barely listened to them for a good few years now despite them being one of the bands I was obsessed with when I really started getting into music. Didn't help that some of their records I only had mono versions of which used to really fuck me off & prevent me from sticking them on. Got all that sorted now though. What a great band. Also, didn't realise how much I love their proper debut on Decca. Used to think it was decent but they moved onto bigger and better things but now I'm not sure. I think it could even be better than their immediate debut.
Jorge Ben's debut I'd not heard until this week. A brilliant mix of samba & Bossa nova, real classic stuff. Also Neil's Young's 'Mirror Ball' I'd only ever heard maybe once or twice before this week. Always was put off by the fact Pearl Jam were his backing band for the LP but it's really fucking strong & off the top of my head I'd say it's one of the best records he's made from the 1980's onwards.
