Going to see Tim Minchin next weekend so thought I'd start a topic about our favourite funny people.

Tim Minchin's probably not one of my all time favourites but I like him. I'm a massive fan of Bill Bailey, probably my favourite comedian tbh. Don't think I'll ever tire of watching his DVD's and hope to catch him live someday. Really like Sean Lock, too. He reminds me of a less miserable and serious Jack Dee, very dry, I find. Ross Noble, I've heard good things about him, should probably check out some of his stuff.

There's probably others but that's all I can think of right now.

Chris Rock, Frank Skinner, noels mate.

I must admit, I rarely like stand up. I have a problem with somebody trying to make me laugh, I'm not sure what that says about me but still. I struggle with the majority of standup comedy.

Easily.

Favourite English comedian is Sean Lock.

Have a love/ahte thing with Stewart Lee, incredibly smug at times but find myself agreeing with a lot of what he says, doesn't produce many belly laughs though.

Probably not a 'cool' choice but I think Lee Mack is reet good.

I also like Jerry SAdowitz though so that bumps my street cred up, doug stanhope is good, Milton Jones is enjoyable in an undemanding way.

I'll post some more if I can be arsed.

Hicks was a nutjob who thought the Kennedy assassination was a conspiracy. If he was still a live he'd be a disciple of David Icke.

Student types seem to like him because he was anti-establishment, other than the vague platitudes you can hear from any numpty 6th former I don't really know what he had to say, or why he's so highly thought of.

EDJUKATE ME

I genuinely find it insulting when people try to compare him to Chris Rock. Or the other way round.

Fans of Hicks will disagree - though many admit that they are, indeed, drawn to Hicks for more than his funny routines.

Micah Holmquist, a 26-year-old writer from Michigan, US, says, "I listen to Hicks' recordings because they are not just funny, but also embody a lot of the rage I often feel at the world. In the days and weeks after 11 September 2001, I found myself regularly listening to Hicks as an antidote to the hegemonic opinion in the US that there could be no context for what happened that day."

For others, Hicks has become a symbol of authenticity in an era of reality TV, ready-made pop and visionless popular culture. Tom Quinn, a 27-year-old fan from Wandsworth, TCOTU, says: "Hicks didn't sell out. He didn't bow to television stations or huge sponsorship deals. And he didn't seem to care about fame and huge earnings."

Didn't seem to care about fame? when he came to England he went on every chat show there was.

Usually doing that less than funny JFK/rifle/jesus/cross bit from his routine.

Doubt he came over here and performed for free either.

That's what fanboys like to tell themselves because they think it reflects well on them.
