Decent fight, Cotto made a good fist of it in the middle rounds and it looked like it was going to turn into a real close contest before Floyd did his usual thang and stepped it up to outwork Cotto down the stretch. I scored it 117-113 Mayweather but others had it closer.
I doubt Mayweather has been hit consistently (and hard) as many times as he was against Cotto.
It's just a shame that outside of Pac, there is pretty much no one for Mayweather now. Alvarez needs to fight a prime 154 fighter instead of beating up old men for me to truly beleive the hype surrounding him and Kahn well, he needs to avenge his defeat and move up in weight to be a legit Mayweather opponent. Martinez is an excellent fighter but I can't see Mayweather fighting him as he'd be giving away a fair bit in weight and size advantage.
Anyway Kudos to Mayweather for firstly taking on a great champion like Cotto at a weight he hasn't fought at for a few years and secondly for an excellent performance full of not just technical skill but real heart too. If Pac gets past Bradley (which there's no guarantee he will) Arum needs to step up to plate and get this fight made, its beyond a joke how long these negotiations have dragged on for.

Let's be fair he does a decent job cleverly vs karpency - i say no more. fair play but they tried to get Shumenuv but they couldn't do the deal, B-Hop would have fought him if he beat Dawson (although it may still happen) who else could they get him to fight (lets be honest he needs some more fights before total elite level) so they have to keep him busy, its not the strongest of divisions however. |
