Had been rumoured he had been on his death bed for a few years now but still doesn't make it any less sadto know that he's now gone.
A true original, a one off. There will never be another artist quite like Captain Beefheart.
An insane interview on David Letterman
& for anyone curious to know more a great documentary that was on the BBC years ago thats well worth a watch

Ahh, very sad. I love those stories of him making Trout Mask Replica, and making his poor band play it over n over, til they went mental I hope that's what Tommy Tux does when he gets in the big studios

I'm not that familiar with his work, but this is a fucking tune ... That is a great tune indeed and I think the first thing I've ever heard by Captain Beefheart. Now appears to be the perfect time for me to get into him and rant about the fact that I've always been into him and it's not just because he's died and I'm feeling opportunistic. Anyone got any suggestions with an album to start with? Pointing me in the direction of a torrent would be appreciated also since I am in the musical wilderness without a Waffles/What account.

Start with the debut 'Safe As Milk' Andy, that song above is from the album, Trout Mask Replica is obviously the big famous album but its a tough listen and takes some real listening and patience its huge aswell, also Lick My Decals Off, Baby is like a more condensed Trout Mask.. both great albums, but Safe As Milk is the best place to start I would say, sorry no torrent links though

Very sad news. He wasn't making music anymore but to me, the fact that a person so special was still alive somewhere, made this world a better place.
And Andy don't be a vulture, at least give the man the time to get buried before you start to profane his grave!

It's what the Captain would have wanted. Probably.
Thanks for the suggestion, Kev. Downloading 'Safe as Milk' just now. Although decent torrents are thin on the ground. The usual sites will probably be awash with them in a day or two now that he has gone to the great gig in the sky.

just google search it, you'll find any of his albums easily. My personal favourite is Clear Spot, infact that was going to be my choice for the soapbox album club before Dan DELETED the board My tribute to the man Wonder what socks makes of this situation, I know he was also a big fan.

Just stuck Safe as Milk on now and it's sounding right up my street. Why does it so often take an artist to die before anyone bothers with them? I'm such a cunt.

One of the voices in Electricity sounds exactly like the guy from Dr. Hook, is it?
Forgot Dr. Hook existed actually. What a tune Freakers Ball is.
