right, david lynch is one of my favourite people in the world and ive loved every single one of his films but id never actually seen twin peaks properly before until now. got the gold boxset for christmas and sat down and watched the pilot this afternoon which was great.
just watched episode one now and i can already tell this is going to be one of my favourite shows of all time, its sucked me in good and proper and already is pretty much all im thinking about. got the theme song stuck in my head constantly too.
i know this is kinda old news and a bit shocking as im such a big lynch fan, but yeah great show innit? im hoping to plough through as much of the series this week before going back to work on the 4th jan but at the same time i can tell i wont ever want it to end.

i think youd like twin peaks from what ive seen so far. its nowhere near as abstract as stuff like lost highway or mullholland drive but is still massively unique and creative.

Its arguably my favorite TV series of all time along with The Sopranos.
The first series and the first half of the second is literally hypnotic at times. Sadly, once the key plot is cleared up, the series goes off the deep end for a few episodes, but the last few episodes are very good. They were under so much pressure to reveal the killer that once they did it seemed to suck the life out of the entire show and theres lots of stuff that takes the piss until it picks up steam again before the end. It didn't help that both David Lynch and Mark Frost left the series and you can tell when they do.
Its a revolutionary series in many ways. You'll see lots of things that influenced dramatic series' now that were brand new when Twin Peaks first aired.
And yea, Twin Peaks is a LOT more straight forward than anything Lynch has ever done (thats partly because Mark Frost is the one responsible for the story), but theres still some Lynchian oddities and very strange moments.
And the music is terrific.

The first season is just fantastic. Come the second season, they bowed to pressure and started revealing things early on, which everyone agrees was a bit stupid in hindsight. Still, its pretty much all great, and simply the weirdest show going, so you're in for a real treat.
Also, the film, Fire Walk With Me is pretty much the "proper" end of the show, so nab that cheaply on DVD too Jan.

Fire Walk With Me is pretty eh IMO. Its a prequel, but should definitely be watched after the show.

I really liked it, and it actually enhanced the series for me. It's the kind of thing i wish would happen for LOST

I really liked it, and it actually enhanced the series for me. It's the kind of thing i wish would happen for LOST I dont hate it, but I think part of the attraction of the show is that its not as "graphic". The mystery is the draw. Fire Walk With Me is really scatterbrained at times and is a mess in places. That was Lynch really putting his stamp on the story where the show is far more of a collaborative effort with Frost.

Sopranos only gets better as it goes on. Probably the best dramatic television ever whereas Id say Twin Peaks is the most creative.

Wasn't there even talk of them reuniting for some kind of webisodes (hate that word heh) last year?
Its been too long though, should probably leave it now.
Add LOST to your Must Watch List though, Jan. The ultimate mystery show, IMO.
And
ROME SONS OF ANARCHY DEADWOOD THE PRISONER (ORIGINAL) THE WIRE THE SHIELD 24 (SEASONS 1 - 3) PRISON BREAK (SEASONS 1 - 2) & BOARDWALK EMPIRE

Band of Brothers is must see. Boardwalk Empire is pretty good if I do say so myself.
I just got The Wire for Xmas myself as Ive only seen random episodes, so thats on my agenda.
Im not sure. I read Dugpa.com regularly (David Lynch news site) but I cant remember seeing anything like that. It was probably just rumor or Lynch talking out of his ass. He was promising season 2 of Twin Peaks on DVD for like 5 years before it finally showed up.

The first moment you see Bob, when Laura's mum see's him at the end of her bed, is without doubt the scariest thing i've ever seen. Yeah Ben nails it on the head really, its spellbinding up until the killer is revealed, but they were forced to do it by the network, it then has a few duff episodes before picking up at the end. It can be abstract in places though, all of Coopers dreams sequences are typically Lynch and brilliant and to think this was shown on mainstream TV in 1990 is amazing. Its definitely in my top 3 tv shows ever, and Cooper one of tv's greatest characters, I am actually currently wearing this bitching t-shirt as I type..
