I try not to judge people by singular star ratings. Though I must admit I wanted to stamp on schnook's soul when I saw he'd given the social network 5 stars. What a cunt. ok film. but yeah 5 stars is fucking stupid.

It's got the murphy 'ok film' seal of approval now. You're making yourself look worse by the minute

I need a tag to identify those records that I don't add to my itunes but have heard enough times to give them a rating. Any proposals?

I'd call them " records that I don't add to my itunes but have heard enough times to give them a rating"

But you say that so you can make your unstoppable espionage easier. I'm rooting for more simple and unidentifiable things like "No" or "meh".

You can just rate records without cataloguing them as CD/Viny/MP3 or whatever. I think they have a 'other' option too.

I just put it when I actually own the record, don't use the MP3 tag, it makes me feel dirty.

Any record I've paid for I log it in the format I currently have it in. Things I've never bought I leave tag-less.
It can be assumed that if something is 4 star or above its in my iTunes regardless and if it's 3.5 or below it isn't, or won't be for long. This simple system is one of many reasons why my rym account is the best on the forum, even if horizen did unfriend me recently.

How can we convince more of the soapbox to join us? I feel people are missing out on a wonderful experience. I love nothing more than going to rate something 4 stars only to find out everybody else gave it 2.5 & then swearing at the PC.

Just realized he has deleted me too.
Anyway, "out" will be the word.

haha he still has me!
He is a bit strange like that sometimes. He disabled his comment box so you can't even leave him a message, I think he's petrified that it gets out in real life that he speaks to people on the interwebz.
We exchange the occasional PM on there about films & music. I wish he'd just come back here, the Hulk Hogan of the soapbox.

But where Hogan only pretends to beat up his opponents, Dan actually did brutally assault and injure his father.

Should have taken the opportunity to print out 1000 copies of his The Masterplan profile and distributed it around Glasto

If I bump into him at Glasto this year I'll definitely go up to him in front of his mates & give it the "Abs! Abs from the internet!" & walk off.

the problem I have with RYM is that I would give a record a certain rating, say 4 stars, then look at other records I have given the same rating and think "Well, this might be a little better than that" or "That is not as good as this" and so on, and I start fiddling with the ratings until everything loses sense!!

I recognise that. but 'rating music' in itself is a bit daft any way when you think about it. I cant even look at my rating list anymore cos its too ridiculous. I do love the part where everyone of my friends have given 4+ for something and I march in there with a mopy 2
