how do you feel about the gallas move kev?
a lot of people on the spurs forums i read dont seem happy about it but id be pretty pleased. a proven big game player for free and he'll be good cover in a position we're injury prone in and a good person for the likes of dawson, kaboul and bassong to learn from. the arsenal thing doesnt particularly bother me either, i dont really think of him as arsenal through and through or anything.
only thing that would worry me slightly is his attitude, he seems to have a history of falling out with people and causing a bit of upset. mind you edgar davids was the same but had a great effect on spurs, even if it is rumoured him and robbie keane had a bit of a training ground scrap once.
im hoping we get him, but i think what i want us to get most before the transfer window ends is a big name striker.

yeah but I cant see benitez fancying eto'o at all. If we get turan I'll be happy. but Kuyt is 30 now, I can't see us getting a lot of cash for him, even though he's worth AT LEAST 15million quid. Benitez is a huge fan of him so I think if Inter really want him they will go far (between 10 and 15 million pounds)

It's lucky you are a more stable club than Portsmouth. Typical Harry signing. A player who doesn't give a shit about any club but do it for the money solely. He's a great player, no doubt and he will fight each game but you will have two defenders now in your starting 11 that doesn't give a shit about Tottenham and never will. Could be a problem, might not be a problem.

Yeh i'd love Turan, but i was only thinking of Inter players who could come in a swap deal and i think Eto'o would be out of favour with Benitez as you say and there's been rumours of him leaving for a while.

So Aqua has gone to Juve then. WOW. never seen a player treated so badly. bought for 20 million, overcame his injuries, still wasnt favoured by benitez, despite the fact that you only had to watch him for 5 minutes to realise he was a special player, didnt play near enough games but and showed his true talent towards the end of last season. I guarantee that if he played more last season we would have finished higher up the table. Mascherano is leaving, and how on earth could anyone favour a 30 year old poulsen who at best is only ever "decent" and lucas to Aquilani. Is roy trying to turn is into fullham? This is liverpool football club ffs. He's been with roy for the entire pre-season, is fit and raring to go, and above all he wants to play for liverpool. and so he's good enough to play games for juve but not with liverpool? what an absolute joke, totally baffled. what could be the reason? his fitness? He is fit. his attitude in training? fat ronaldo never trained a day in his life and he is the greatest striker of all time ffs. the bottom line is we've just sent a 20 million pound player out on loan, and have no money to sign a replacement of that calibre, unless a takeover happens. Hilarious. From what i can gather, the medical team and Hodgson are worried that a lot of his "illnesses" are in his head and they want to see him get a full season under his belt before putting him in the team permanently. I think it's only fair, the best way to test his fitness without hurting our performances is to let him do it somewhere else.

Hilarious. I completely agree. I was fuming when I read BBC Sport today. It's absolute nonsense, especially if Mascherano does go. Bob, you keep saying he needs a run of games in a team and we can't give him that, well why can't we? As Axl has already said, he's fit and raring to play for Liverpool and this is surely the best chance he's had yet of making a go of claiming a regular place in the team and we ship him out? It's just bad business, end of. He's the best midfielder we have after Gerrard IMO, he just needs to be treated with a bit of respect. The few chances he's had his class has shone through. If he does indeed go on loan to Juve they will be laughing at us. They sell us Poulsen for near £5m and get Aquilani in to replace him. And if he plays well with them I can't see him coming back to England, they'll sign him up and we'll be fucked. Insanity. Oh and on the Kuyt issue, yet again it's just stupid. Why would we sell him if we've no one to replace him? It's not like he's going to be pushing us to let him leave, he's not like that and he'll always give his all. If anyone thinks Inter are going to do cash plus a player that we need then you're mentally ill.

Could be a problem, might not be a problem. Fuck the loyalty game. It's 2010 98.7% of players do not give a shit about their clubs. I have the upmost respect for Assou Ekotto for saying last year that he refused to kiss the badge and that he wasn't bothered who he played for. He gave his all and as soon as the game ended he turned off. The fact that he blatently gives his all and has improved a lot makes him a don. Gallas has too much pride in himself to be shit tbh. God knows why we signed him though. We have Woodgate, King, Dawson, Bassong and Kabol. Even with the two crocs we only really need a 4th place cover which when signing 33 year old old on big money who may rock the boat seems a bit silly. I think he will be alright though. Bit gutted about Aquilani. Always liked his underdog vibe and thought he would come good tbh.

Pretty much agree with your points mate, don't give a shit about the Arsenal connection, for me we're getting an experienced Champions league player for free who is actually a great defender, he's not over the hill at 32 and for a year deal and the rumoured big pay cut he's taking I think its a wise move, for all the history about him being tempremental he's never really taken that to the pitch, ok he had a sulk in the Birmingham game but he's always played well for Chelsea & Arsenal, knows the premier league and knows the champions league. And if we do qualify for the Champions league, as you said he'll be good to have around for the likes of Dawson & Bassong to learn from, pleased with the singing tbh.

To be fair Axl, in situations like this I always feel there is probably part of the story that is missing, there must be a reason for it, you don't spend £20 million on a player only to never play him, and then Hodgson takes over and he's loaned out straight away, there must be a reason, I've never seen enough on him to really comment on how good he is, but he never really lit the place up when I did, I just think there must be an underlining issue, whether its fitness or not that must lead to a situation like this?

Simple, we can't give him a run of games because should he break down or simply not perform to his level because he's scared of injury then our performances will suffer. The manager won't want to risk starting a player who won't give 100% when there's others there who will. It's not a case that he's not good enough, it's obvious that Rafa, Roy and the medical team don't trust him to play at his level right now. The fact that two separate managers aren't willing to risk him shows that there's clearly something wrong with him, it's not down to a personal problem like people thought with Rafa. I'm a fan of Aquilani as in a few games he did show some good signs - he also wasted an awful lot of passes and dodged a load of tackles - but it's pretty clear there's something wrong with him otherwise he'd be playing.

Cheikh Tiote from FC Twente to Newcastle

Ooooh, sounds like we've actually signed him as well - and it's a position we actually need filling (sorry bet welching prick/Alan Smith), the jurys obviously still out on Hughton in the premiership but in the transfer market he's been absolutely impeccable (one Leon Best-shaped aberration aside) in finding players for positions that need filling, unlike the 'Damien Duff for £5m? Bollocks to Chalres N'Zogbia, then' days of old. What's your verdict Der Effe? Supposedly he was pretty impressive in McClaren's title winning side.

Well actually this is his 3rd season at FC Twente and it's only this season that he's a definite regular, even though last season he started in way more games than in his first season. He's a good player, defensive midfielder. Not the one that connects midfield with attack but definitely the kind of player every team can use. He's also a bit of an invisible player at times so it's hard to tell whether it will be a good buy or not. Such players need to fit in your team. I think you shouldn't expect any fireworks from him but he can definitely be a very useful player for Newcastle

Well that sounds good, Alan Smith can't even connect his shoe laces so I won't worry too much about his link up play. This could solve some problems for us because if Ben Arfa doesn't happen Tiote can provide the muscle for the talented-but-lightweight Danny Guthrie in the middle and we can shift Barton further forward, hope this gets finalised.
