Yeah, allmusic isn't the gospel but their rating system is usually accurate (more or less). I would have given Is This Desire a bit more though, that album is fantastic, and To Bring You My Love is obviously a five star miracle album. PJ's output has been jawdropping from day one and I'm glad that the people at allmusic are honest enough to give her high scores.

The Last Living Rose is clearly the song of the year

Written on the forehead is still my favourite off the album. But I can only agree with the general consesus that it is one of her best and the number one so far of 2011.
Her consistency is remarkable and I don't think I've ever come across anyone hating her music. Once they hear it, which is a different matter. Can't believe how unknown she is in general, over here at least.

check this sully ma boiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. Brilliant tbh, I actually didn't know it was sampled. I've a huge folder of Polly b-sides that I'll turtle on Sunday for anyone that fancies indulging in more Harvey heaven. This is one of my favourites:

Yeah that B-sides folder sounds tasty. I only have 'The B-sides' record that she put out in 95. Always been a fan of her but mostly always returned to Stories From The City & neglected most of her early work so I'm going to work my way through her back catalogue backwards.
Ax-man, I don't know if you are aware or not but she's also done two albums with John Parish who appears on Let England Shake which are worth looking into also.

That reminds me, is John Parish the guy who sings on 'the colour of the earth', who sounds *exactly* like Mark Knopfler?

I remember reading somewhere that PJ was one of the few "modern" artists that the Captain liked. And I'm glad someone mentioned White Chalk: that was a tough album to get into, but once you "unlock" it, it's one of the greatest records of our generation. I'm hearing a lot of traces of White Chalk on the new album, the airy melodies, the high pitch ghostly voice etc

Yeah apparently when she finishes an album she'd always send it to Captain first. Though apparently he didn't like stories from the city

Saw Polly and the band last night at the Troxy, was brilliant.
They played pretty much the whole of Let England Shake, then littered the set with a few oldies here and there, wighed heavily with songs from Is This Desire, To Bring You My Love and White Chalk, played nothing from the first two and only Big Exit from Stories, but it worked brilliant, she played the auto harp for a lot of the set and the John Parish and Mick Harvey switched around on various instruments, they adapted a lot of the older songs to kind of fit in with the sound of the new album in a way so it was interesting.
A friend of a friend is the in house sound man at the Troxy so we got in for free, he said that they installed a 'smell machine' at the front of the stage that was supposed to eminate an 'earthy' smell, I didn't notice it, and also quite bizarely apparent Polly has a stalker so there was a tonne of security there and he was saying all the staff and everyone had to be checked out and they were constantly checking all rooms and places in the venue throughout the two days, as they were expecting the stalker to be at the gigs. haha

It really is, probably my album of the year so far tbh. It's been a good year for music already and we're only at the end of March.

No, they are not doing anything this year.
Nick Cave, Raveonettes, Ryan Adams, Weller, Rifles, Arctic Monkeys, Graham Coxon & hopefully shit horse to come, what a year.
