It wasn't because of that. You was saying no way they'd sell out their arena shows. Which time has proved you was wrong. Well true, but you'd think they'd go hand in hand really. I'd say 99.9% of bands playing the SECC will be known to the general public, hence why they're playing an arena. It doesn't go hand in hand. Most the general public couldn't name a song by Iron Maiden yet they've sold over 85 million records & been one of the most successful live acts in history.

Stop moving the goal posts I said "you'd think" anyway. The fact is 100% of the nation know who Iron Maiden are. Thatw as the point I was making, not if they know individual songs by any artist.

I'm not moving anything. It was you saying Arcade Fire were not big enough to be playing arena's or the SECC & they did, easily. 99.9% of the public won't heard of the likes of James, Disturbed, Bullet For My Valentine, Faithless, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Flight of The Conchords, Dave Matthews Band, 30 Seconds To Mars & Placebo who have all played the SECC in the past year.

It is weird though how they are playing Hyde Park next year and shit loads of people have never even heard of them, same as JP had a few people in work ask me if I new them today, and even people who are half into music, there are very few bands who have managed to do that.
Suppose this could be the crossover for them now, Grammy win and Brit wins under the belt, hope they don't go all KOL.

Let's face it Kev, going 'all KOL' wouldn't do much harm as they are already honkingly rotten.

It was obvious from the first time I heard their new album that they want to be the new U2. Everything about that band is fucking wrong & I'm surprised so many people on here fail to see it.

TBF thats not true, I do like the album though it's nowhere near as good as their first. But it doesn't sound remotely like a band wanting to be the next U2, that could probably have been levelled at half of Neon Bible but The Suburbs is mostly pretty understated in its tone, doesn't try to be particularly big or epic and isn't full of attempted radio hits. I think they do want to be big and have as many people hear their music as possible but that goes the same with a lot of bands out there.

TBF thats not true, I'm afraid it is. LOL at the silly cunts Joe Strummer punk look. What a ridiculous try-hard cunt. Their next album will be their Joshua Tree. They are still stuck on War & The Unforgettable Fire, I.E they haven't figured out how to make proper radio friendly anthems yet.

Yeah I agree with this, I do enjoy the new album too, but it didn't blow me away, I do however think its quite clearly the least accessible of all their albums. But yeah they clearly want to be a big popular band and fair play, but like many of the bands mentioned so far (KOL & U2 being the obvious ones) Arcade Fire have yet to release an intentionally radio friendly album full of hits or plastered themselves throughout the media, in fact I can only ever remember seeing one or two interviews with them ever and one of them was on the culture show. If they want to try and be massive good luck to them I say, as long as they don't do it by writing a 'Sex on Fire', which they certainly have not done so far.

Arcade Fire's problem is they are trying their hardest to make the anthems but don't have it in them. Coldplay & U2 are much better bands.
