Yeah, so the Toronto show was last night. After my initial madferit-ness when I got the tickets a few months ago, I have to say, the excitement had waned in the weeks leading up to the show. I've always been in the Liam camp, and while I enjoyed Different Gear, Still Speeding, I hadn't listened to it in the last month or so. I have to say, the show was great. I was able to get up pretty close, and the Sound Academy was not nearly as bad as I had remembered it. And I know Liam's voice is talked about ad nauseum around here, but it really was fucking fantastic last night. I don't know what he's done, but it was ridiculously good (so good, I couldn't help wish they would have done an Oasis song to hear him sing it). And he wore the parka. Didn't see Grimes or Mathieu though.

Im not enthusastic about the gig going in, but everyone is having a good time at their show and Im going to do the same.

And like I said, Liam is really on form, vocally. He always sounds better when you're there, but in this case he was exceptionally so.

Made it to toronto by the skin of my teeth after my grandfather's funeral, and I swear to god, the moment Liam walked onstage in 'the parka', I nearly died myself from laughter. What a don.
The show itself was surprisingly good. Sound was pretty muddy for the first few songs (couldn't hear Gem's guitar at all), but Liam sounded pretty damn good. Man of misery was massive, which surprised me.
(Although, I have to say it felt like there was a 5'7" hole on the right side of the stage that was VERY evident throughout the show.)

he's one of the best frontman ever and the band is perfect, it has to be a fucking great gig anyway. glad you enjoyed it (and yeah, fuck the parka - but it's him, what can you do?)

Enjoyed the Toronto gig as well. Ears still ringing... Like that"s a good thing I reckon once they have another album under their belt and have a slightly better pool of songs to pick from (weed out some filler), then the gigs will be great. The only song I thought was garbage was For Anyone -- sounds a bit too Mickey Mouse live. They could probably do with lobbing in an Oasis song at the end of the set perhaps before the encore to bring up the energy a little. Agree, the Sound Academy wasn't as bad as expected. Also, did anyone else secretly enjoy the Hippy Mafia Was fairly fun, had had a listen before and thought they were garbage, but live it kind of had a bit of a Kasabian feel to it and seemed like an alright bunch. Was reading that interview with them on SCYHO re: supporting Beady Eye and they seem to have a little cred at least An annoying friend of mine posted a pic of her with Liam on some patio in Toronto the next day (think it was taken Monday afternoon). Didn't even know of BDI ffs Being a Monday took a bit of the excitement out of it for me, stupid as that sounds, having had a big-ish weekend beforehand that meant some logistical hurdles last night and being knackered... would've liked to get there earlier and be closer than 5th row with the zombies. All in all, decent gig.

That was fucking bullshit the gig? more details plz xxx I had a great time really. Friends, good new people, drink, smoke, I cannot complain about the evening itself at all. From a musical perspective, I felt that the band was boring. They are proficient, but in terms of the songs I felt there was nothing there and my own bright spots to the record aren't very good to begin with. I have not listened to the album much at all since it first leaked, but it wasnt a case of material detachment. The performance came across as "epic bar band" to me and its almost entirely due to the songs. The band were good, Liam's voice was fine, I just didn't really enjoy the music in a way I normally do when I enjoy something. I wanted to be flipped 180 degrees even going in feeling eh. I wanted to come out converted, but it wasnt to be. Thats happened before with some acts for me. If Im not quite into it, a live performance is the kick in the ass, but wasnt happening on this night. However, Kim is completely flipped into pro-BDI now. I didnt have a bad time or a bad night at all because I wasnt feeling the band though. Id go again simply because of that reason. I wont be forcing the issue of going to see them again unless the next album is better for me.

That's a great explanation but you forget to relate how Themis hijacked your account and made that "bullshit" comment.

Alright, let me just say this one more time - I had high expectations from BDI's album, and unfortunately, i didnt really rate the LP that high. Although i still have bought everything 7'' (x2), box sets, LP's, CD's etc. (i didnt buy a shirt). "Why did you buy it" - Coz its fucking Oasis. Because Liam was my hero for 15 years. Because this band is whats left of my great childhood years - but wait, its not the same band! Perhaps i'm being too critical. Perhaps i'm too agressive. But this is what happens when you love something no? A person, a meal, a director, a band? You become critical and your standards are very high (OR YOU WOULDNT LOVE THEM) My standards for BDI were high. Half the album is crap. The other half is decent. Three or so tunes are really fucking good (Four Letter Word is immense, great great great live song too) Like Ben, i thought a live show would change it. After all, it was Liam! Despite the GREAT time i had with everyone, (Okay, sure, it wasnt this bad) I was disappointed by the lack of effort, in a way. Liam was there, but he didnt have the music to back him up. It was weird. Seriously, compare Liam STANDING THERE when rock n roll star is playing, and Liam STANDING THERE when for anyone is on. Come on. Seriously. Is beady eye a fun little act? Sure. I might even go see them again, just because of all the facts i mentioned above. Am i excited? not to the slightest. I;'ll be seeing the black angels for the 3rd and 4th time in a few months in July, and i'm FUCK ALL excited for it. I'm madferit, love Liam, but BDI aint for me. Sorry. Hope that was good enough for my haters

Oh, and i thought his voice was horrible. He destroyed the beat goes on and the morning son. Destroyed them. Then again, he sounded fantastic on four letter word and sons of the stage. I dont know. i guess it has to do with the dynamics of the song or something.
