The Bluetones are planning to split up in September, the band have announced.
The four-piece, who formed in 1993, have decided to call it a day with a farewell UK tour later in 2011.
"We're afraid the time has come and we must say farewell," they said in a statement posted on their MySpace page, Myspace.com/thebluetones this morning (March 28).
They added: "After 17 years of touring and six studio albums, The Bluetones have decided that this Autumn's tour will be our last.
"We will be playing a career-spanning set of songs as a way to say thank you to our loyal supporters and hopefully signing off with a bit of a bang."
The TCOTU four-piece - Mark Morriss, Adam Devlin, Scott Morriss and Eds Chesters - scored their biggest hit in 1996 with 'Slight Return'. That song peaked at Number Two in the UK singles chart.
The song was taken from their debut album 'Expecting To Fly', which briefly knocked Oasis' (What's The Story) Morning Glory?' off the top of the UK albums chart in February that year.
The last studio album they recorded was 'A New Athens', which was released in May 2010.

Heard about this earlier and I'm not that surprised tbh. Last time I saw them they were fucking dull and looked like they were going through the motions. Got a horrible feeling they'll just reel out the hits for the last tour but I used to love going to see them from about 2003-2007 when they seemed to rediscover their own back catalogue and played a load of different b-sides/album tracks on every tour. I still love the first 4 albums and the Serenity Now EP, got a load of fond memories of them and I suppose they were a big inspiration in forming The Wynd and writing the early tunes.
Crazy lineup tbh, plenty of bands who would have been fairly high up a Glasto lineup not that long ago.
