Sounds as dull as 'The Importance Of Being Idle'.

Really really like it, nothing kind of flamboyant or voluptuous, but a rock solid, incredibly nice tune. Summer in the city + TIOBI + The Kinks + brass =

Yeah, everyone wanted a slightly better version of You've Got The Heart Of a Star to complete their lives. It's ok, but Noel's nerdy voice undermines it somewhat. This is one of those songs that really needs Liam's magical vocals to rescue it. 5.5/10

The links to TIOBI are tedious and rediculous.
TIOBI was built round a strong riff stolen from The La's that gave the song a sense of urgency coupled with lyrics about being lazy. It had contrast, people like contrast. People also like going DUN, DUN NA NA NUN, DUN NA NUN NUN NUN NUN NUN. People are easily pleased. I have no idea what this song is about and there's nothing memorable about it.
It's an okay song that will probably make for nice filler on the album but as a lead single it's got nothing about it.
I'm sure there will be a lot of 'coulda been an early b-side' but it really sounds like it would belong Heathen Chemistry. It's the song She Is Love should have been.

i hope the album sounds more like falling down and less like TIOBI, personally.

i just listened to you've got the heart of a star for the first time since 2002, basically, and the comparison to this is well harsh imo.*
this new 'un is an alright track, if a pretty uninspired lead single. no probs with it being on the album, though.
most of the stuff noel was writing around HC was proper fucking bilge.
*harsh because ygthoas is proper fucking awful.

Although I did mention it, I think it has very little in common with TIOBI besides the obvious fingerprints two songs by the same writer/singer will always share. So, I'm not buying any point using TIOBI for praising or vitiating The Death, just easy imagery.
And at this moment of moderated euphoria there's also a feeling of dejavu, so although I've liked everything I've heard (including Stop the Clocks and Record Machine) I'm taking it with a pinch of salt...

so with this plodder, record machine and stop the clocks, almost a third of the album is already confirmed as dull

if it gets a decent arrangement (that's a big if) i reckon stop the clocks has potential to be a nicely ethereal closing track. record machine i'm less optimistic about...

Very average. The best bits are the start and the end.

I quite like it, i'm not blown away by it tbh but it's a good pop song, wasn't expecting a brass section

5 minutes of strings and choir as a background song on a website > different gear, still speeding.
