Another +1 for Janeane Garofalo. She's really funny in her bits.

Tell Me Who I Am - that new netflix documentary about the abused twins. it was tastefully done and very moving but overall this stuff is much more for the likes of eddie_murphy to critique on and not me. 7.2
Monos - One of the best things I've ever seen, frankly. A genuine masterpiece of direction. Took my breath away. I don't know what else to say about it right now tbh, except it's got a perfect mix of everything I adore in going to the cinema. 10.
The Game Changers - that new-ish netflix documentary about plant-based diets. Eye-opening. Arnie and James Wilks take you through a ridiculously convincing journey of why animal-based fats are essentially making us shit. From the strongest, fittest sportspeople on the planet to the legit-est research. It's superbly put together and if you're not having second thoughts about continuing to eat the flesh of dead animals by the end of it (i mean, i still do...), then i'd question what the actual fuck was wrong with you. Feel everyone needs to watch this. 9
Feel like I'm watching a bunch of good shit at the moment, which is nice.

Monos - One of the best things I've ever seen, Woah, you liked it then? Will give that Game Changers a watch. Had a productive weekend.. & by that I mean I sat in my pants & did nothing but watch films. It was glorious. Rabid (2019) loose remake of early Cronenberg Body Horror. Had enough changes in plot to make it worthwhile, though not executed as well as it should have been. CM Punk made a cameo Definitely not a recommend from me, but tbh I was expecting nothing & it turned out kinda OK. Dolemite Is My Name - So much fun. Didn't expect to be loving an Eddie Murphy movie in 2019 but he's great here (Wesley Snipes too!) The Farewell - Tried to see this in the cinema the other week but the fucking fire alarm went off just after the trailers and they kicked everyone out . Lovely film, just felt so well handled & the dynamics between the family felt completely real. Didn't expect to laugh so much either. The Peanut Butter Falcon - Re-watched this, I bloody love this film. Can see myself watching this multiple times tbh. Fuck the haters, I love Shia LaBeouf. Stuber - Needed something easy late Saturday night & this fit the bill. I don't mind big Dave Bautista as the leading man. Was knackered and pretty sure I drifted off at one point, but it wasn't as awful as it probably should have been. Wrinkles the Clown - documentary about a clown who people pay to scare the shit out of their kids. Semi-interesting when it gets to what should have been the focus of the doc, yet they left it far too late. American Women - Was surprised by this. daughter gets kidnapped and we get to see the aftermath, great performances from Sienna Miller & Christina Hendricks. No surprises, just a well executed straight up drama. The Parts You Lose - This was dull as shit. Aaron Paul sucks

They just leave themselves open to scrutiny with for instance the blood samples when it isn't taking into account how much fluid/sleep and other factors they've been having. Still, more erections during night, sign me up.

yeah that was certainly the biggest hole i could poke at on first viewing. though, the debunking articles i've read about it miss the point of it somewhat i think, pointing to a few loose bits here and there. but it doesn't have to be flawless to be broadly correct and it's clear to see the pattern and benefits of a plant-based diet and it has to be forcefully stated but they also said that the best thing to do is to reduce animal-based protein intake, which only the moronic could argue with.
On a similar-ish tip, you seen Icarus yet karl? Another documentary but about doping in cycling. It was excellent, I thought.

Yeah an interesting doc for sure. Especially how it kinda starts out as one thing and then more things become revealed. Fair play to that Russian scientist, he has some balls

that's a feelgood movie if ever there was one. If you "enjoyed" that check out Come and See (1985), it's the bleakest most horrifying war film I've ever seen. Not sure I could ever revisit it... also contains a scene which QT definitely pinched for the start of Basterds.

At the end of it, I asked Isa what she thought and she solemnly said "I don't want to talk now" and went straight to bed and sleep When I can build up the wherewithal, I will get onto Come and See, thx!

Earthquake Bird Watched this on the back of a couple of decent reviews. Like a darker Lost in Translation, with less Kevin Shields but more death and hints of lesbian sex. Beautifully shot but the flashback/flashforward thing pissed me off after a while. 6.5/10.

It is so good. Carve it into your schedule. It it also so long. But so good. Pesci steals it. De Nero's best ever.

Irishman - 10/10
Loved it.
watched this and during the first 20 minutes I was thinking, influenced by, homage to, better than, on par with, etc etc - 2 hours in, and I'm thinking none of those things.
I've no idea how Scorsese has pulled this off. This was a bloody risky film for him to make, take the godfather out of the equation and this is the definitive gangster experience in the same way once upon a time in the west is arguably the definitive western film from an holistic point of view. I've enjoyed other westerns more than Once upon a time in the west, and I'll probably enjoy other gangster films more than the Irishman.
But this is the type of film where you've just got to hand it to the director for what he manages to accomplish. The fact is, Pesci, Pacino, and Bob all deserve best actor awards, watch it, and take your pick.
Again, to reiterate, this is an incredible achievement, as talented as scorsese is, he's competing against the godfather, the sopranos, goodfellas, casino, and with 80 year old actors, this film could have and probably should have been a giant embarrassing mess, but is instead a subtle and elegant masterpiece. Al Pacino's character is brilliant.

Yep The Irishman is great. Watched it twice now and its even better the 2nd time. If there was a man of the match it would be Pacino. Who's going to get the Oscar ??

Dolemite Is My NameLiked this more than I expected. Uncomplicated, well-made, feel-good stuff. Inspiring, even. Really took me aback that it's a true story Eddie Murphy has been waiting for this role a good ol' while and he's fun to watch. Wesley Snipes, even moreso. 7.7/10
