As much as it's shit, people with comments like "20 years to write this" are fucking idiots, aren't they?

It's just the genuine belief that some people think they'd been storing potential Roses comeback singles in their locker for twenty years despite doing their solo/side projects stuff. But yeah, more like twenty minutes.

I listened through shit laptop speakers last night. After a few listens today through my headphones, I dislike it less than I did yesterday but it's still not great. It's catchy, so I can understand why it's the lead single, but it's just not enough.
I think musically, it's alright really, even if that riff is pretty much lifted from that Fall tune. The break at about 02:34 is pretty cool but it's not enough to make it a good tune.
The production isn't much cop. You can just about hear Mani's bass in the mix; it should be more prominent.
All in all, I'd give it a 5/10. I don't despite it but I don't particularly like it either. Any hope I had for the album being decent is all but gone.

I think it's one of those strange cases of a pretty straight up song that grows after some time. Not because you discover anything new, but just because it's catchy as fuck and after all, if you forget the "20 years" thing, it's not bad. Not saying it's great though They probably chose it as a single for the style, being a full on rock song, but the rest (if there's any) might not be like that. In my opinion that wasn't what The Stone Roses did best back then, and even the likes of The Libertines decided to give up with that kind of songs on their return. On the other hand, Oasis could probably succeed with a comeback on that vein.

Musically it's OK, bass should be more prominent and the drums are unspectacular but the guitar break is wicked. The "other" Bridgey bit is really good too, but that join hands and make a wall bit is too cringey. Could've worked as an intro and outro that bit (with a less cringey lyric) but it just goes on and on. Not great but to be fair we're talking about fellas in there 50s I suppose, and in that context its actually decent. 6/10
