for Oasis' failure to break America
Guitarist says his brother's behaviour 'killed us stone dead in America' Noel Gallagher has hit out at brother Liam, saying that he blames him for Oasis' failure to truly break America. The guitarist, who released his debut solo album 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' on October 17 this year, has revealed that his brother bailed on the opening night of the band's US tour in 1996 after then wife Patsy Kensit called and said that they needed to buy a house. Noel went on to say that his brother's behaviour "killed us stone dead in America" and that he blamed him "for Oasis never becoming as big in America as we were in England". Speaking to The New York Times, Noel said of one of the band's early US tours: "As I'm getting on the plane he's getting off because his wife called, saying: 'We need to buy a house.' What they were doing for the previous three months is anybody's guess. Probably picking gnats out of each other's hair like monkeys." He continued: "The first gig was a 16,000-seat arena, and the singer's not turned up. That killed us stone dead in America. This is rock'n'roll. Would Johnny Rotten have gotten a house on the eve of an American tour? Keith Richards? John Lennon? You either want it or you don't, and I blame him for us never becoming as big in America as we were in England."

his theory falls down though if you listen to be here now, which sold very well the first week of its release in the US, but then didnt catch on, cos it sucked.

"Probably picking gnats out of each other's hair like monkeys."
Typical passive aggressive shite from the little man syndrome afflicted dwarf.
Still, it's good he acknowledges Oasis's success was down to Liam.

It sold 700 copies less than Puff Daddy's album which was released the same week and riding off the huge wave eminating from the death of Biggie Smalls (R.I.P).

I think them being British had a bit to do with it to. Im fully aware that the spice girls broke through soon after but had they been brash Americans they'd have probably been an American staple.
Also music here got shitty in a hurry with all that terrible pop or nu metal horseshit. There really were not any bands that were good and really popular in the states for a while starting in 1998. Shit hit the fan fast

It was mostly liams fault. He burned bridges with the press and concert promoters and they never forgot.
Enough with calling be here now a bad album. Nothing sounds more oasis then that. Classic

Classic I have it on good authority Oasis were known as "that Beatles band" after Wonderwall. Be Here Now was a fucking million miles away from that sound (and was also better than it) and had a lead single that was 19 minutes long which was Noel's creative choice. It should be noted that Liam put down the best vocals of his career and thus the best vocals ever on that album. Silly Americans couldn't get their heads around it and could probably barely relate it to WTSMG. I can't see any amount of cock sucking to fat Americans wallys changing that. Who gives a shit about America anyway? Just Noel.

Didn't this happen ALMOST 15 YEARS AGO?
Fucking hell, talk about being unnecessarily resentful. He already is filthy rich and extremely successful, what does it matter if they didn't 'truly break' America? You broke everywhere else in the world, you midget.

Classic Noel walked out on the tour in late 96' a few hours before a gig in Charlotte with a third of the tour still to go. Haven't heard any Noel mongs say much about that.

Id say Liam started the fire when he pissed off fans (buying a house? I personally look back at it and think its fucking hilarious as it is nearly too ridiculous for Spinal Tap) and rubbed execs/the press the wrong way by being himself (im guessing all of them were pretty PO'd when he missed the unplugged)
I think Noel's slagging of Be Here Now hurt them more in the states than him bolting the band. Basically saying that you dont believe in what you are releasing is not the best idea. People may have understood the whole Liams fucking nuts I can see why hed leave.
They also definitely shouldve taken a break after Morning Glory. Release a stand alone single or two and taken a break for a year. The demand would've been high (much higher than it was for SOTSOG)
To be honest I should've been their manager
After reviewing my post, Ive decided that this thread belongs somewhere in the Oasis The Band section of the Live Forever message board.

This is the same Noel Gallager that cancelled a show in Charlotte NC and walked out on the tour in 1996 (I think). My buddies drove 5 hours to the show, all to get to the gate and it say cancelled lol.

Havent bothered to even read what they've been saying to each other over the past few week. Lost interest. The Beady Eye record was compete dogshit from start to finish, easily in my worst records of 2011, so bad. The Noel album has faded for me aswell. Initially I was buzzing off it but havent listened to it for weeks now and have no real intention of going back to it any time soon.
