NOOIICEE.
I got stung with a customs tax for my copy of the Noname record, extra £13, bastards!
I picked up a copy of Mingus' Ah Um a couple of weeks back as well.
They finally repressed Original Pirate Material which I picked up last week, it's only been pressed once since it's original release and it's been going for £80/100 on Ebay discogs, so glad to finally pick a copy up.
I've spent way too much money on records recently..

Nice buys. I've also found myself buying mostly soul/funk/reggae & Jazz when I buy vinyl. I picked up a couple of records by The Jimmy Castor Bunch recently which I've been loving. Both records are frustratingly patchy (some terrible cheesy ballads on each record) but there's some hard hitting funk on each record which sounds incredible
Also Rufus Thomas' Crown Prince of Dance. Was buying a record off someone on discogs and decided to see what else they had for sale & saw this, sampled a few seconds on Ebay and decided to grab it, I'm in love with it. I'd heard a few songs on Atlantic comps over the years but never any of his records.

That tends to be the problem with buying soul/funk etc. Outside of the classics, albums tend to contain perhaps two or three killers ('It's Just Begun' being the obvious Jimmy Castor Bunch stone cold classic track in itself worth buying an album for) and a whole lot of filler.
I really should get round to starting a proper 7" collection.
I've not heard that Rufus Thomas record. Need to check it out.

There was a record fair by us last weekend and it wasn't bad at all. About forty stalls. A lot of metal and punk what with it being Germany, a lot of Krautrock too and then the usual array of classic rock, but some half decent Jazz, Soul and Hip Hop too.
I picked up a couple of Sun Ra reissues, that tbh I could've got cheaper on discogs. But all the fun of the fair etc. Plus a couple of Art Ensemble Of Chicago pieces, one of Kool and the Gang's decent 70s records, a Courtney Pine album (purely for the track Children of the Ghetto- check it out if you've not heard it) but the best two were Newcleus' classic early 80s electro monster Jam On it, on 12" and a first press of Paul's Boutique on a German release in MINT condition. That record is a funny one. On release it absolutely bombed and was genuinely kicking about he bargain bins for £1. Later when folks realised how good it was, it started going for money cos the early unsold copies must've got destroyed.

Are record fairs cheaper than eBay for new/sealed LPs or pretty much the same? I've been picking up a few recently but I've never been bothered about going to a fair. Truth is I can't see the appeal of digging through scrums of people and records for half a day looking for something I might fancy. Aye, proper Victor Meldrew style But if you save a decent chunk of money I can see why it's worth it. Anyway today I picked up Demolition by Ryan Adams. I saw it pretty cheap online, perhaps because it's got the worst reviews of all of his, but I was chuffed at how much I liked it after my first spin in years. Some really great tunes there. Is it just considered shit compared to the rest of his early catalogue or what? I rate it a lot more than the stuff after Cold Roses. Nuclear is massive and tunes like Dear Chicago and Cry On Demand are beauties.

No, I'd say you probably get things cheaper online, but you always haggle at fairs. But it's still probably cheaper online. Most sellers price for people that don't know what the right price is so you can always haggle down. Especially if you buy a couple of bits from the same seller.
I always have discogs open on my phone at fairs.
For the big fairs, most of the really decent stuff, the rare stuff that passes for decent money, is bought and sold in hotel rooms and pubs by the stall holders themselves.
I like fairs though. You always learn a bit and end up chatting to other folks and a lot of the time stumble across something you weren't aware you were looking for. Also, often stalls will have speakers set up so you might hear something new you like. If you go to regular fairs you start to get to know the stall holders a bit and they might source bits for the next time they see you, or recommend stuff based on previous buys. Especially so in TCOTU.

Yeah I do really like the idea of meeting other vinyl fans at them but knowing me I'd get chatting to the bloke looking for the rare Lionel Ritchie LPs. I reckon I should make the effort at some stage though. I am actually going to vintage fair soon though haha, so maybe I'll find some gems there.

Sully, can be either or regards to being cheaper/expensive. Sometimes you can get good deals, othertimes no chance. Record fairs in major cities tend to be priced accordingly, though if your going to ones in smaller towns some dealers are really well priced. There was a guy at a record fair near me that I got loads of good stuff from a few years back, The Undertones debut, some spaghetti western soundtracks, Lodger by Bowie & so on all for £5 each all in good condition. Though that bloke don't turn up anymore unfortunately. The two local ones to me are not worth going to very often due to the same dealers being there every single time with stock that barely ever seems to change. Has anyone worked out a way of posting pics in these threads using a phone? If you mean pictures on your actual phone then no, prboards don't host anything. You'd have to up it to somewhere like tinypic.com and then use the [img@]jpg adress[/@img] (minus the @'s)

Endless finally arrived. That first track!!
Also a Spanish press of Charles Mingus Black Saint and Lady Sinner, which is a masterpiece and probably my favourite jazz record. I couldn't afford an original US press.

It doesn't unfortunately. Information which is is pretty useless is that it's a 1976 press. Original was '63.
One day I'll own an original first pressing. But for a half decent copy it'll cost at least €150.

For some reason (I had a discount reaching the due date) I went and bought some CDs from the Fnac store. That was the place where I used to do it, less romantic than a local shop but oh well. It felt like a last toast (is that an English expression?), just to spend a few minutes browsing the stacks, without looking at anything but also looking at everything at the same time. Probably I won't buy anymore plus I tried to be a viniyl guy for a while, but then my machine broke. Nonetheless it was just an invasive way of listening to music in the internet era.
I bought The Basement Tapes, that new Nick Cave compilation which was surprisingly cheap, the SFA compilation and the 2CD Twin Fantasy version.
