Personally I think it's an interesting & fun idea. It kind of pisses me off to see people like Beck & The Flaming Lips take so much shit for their 'gimmicks'. For me, anybody who attempts something different with music should be applauded even if it comes across as self indulgent. In a world where most people listen to something once & move on it's kind of refreshing to see people attempt different approaches to what is considered the norm.

I'd like it to work tbh, but it will only probably have some impact on the ones who are already interested in Beck as a character. Anyway, on these days of quick consumption and aseptic prefabricated products, I'm gladly discovering there's a Renaissance of "handmade", meticulously elaborated, small-scale products, destinated to a small piece of the market who demand it and respond eagerly. I'm talking with two or three concrete things in mind, like magazines or documentaries, but I supose they have their equivalents in many other fields. Instead of fast fused unoriginal opinions everywhere and everytime, they let things settle down, allowing you to savor them. They can fill a hole in society and, who knows, maybe reeducate it. But yeah, Beck I think I've lost the plot

Good read, that.
And, this is a great idea, really. It's something new in a world where we can access anything we want at a click. Most of us no longer spend time reading the lyrics in an album sleeve or taking in the artwork like we used to.
I miss the magic of the days when music used to cost something. For me, I'd buy 3 or 4 new CD's every month, having to carefully consider how I'd spend my money. Once you made the puchase, that would be it; those would be all I'd listen to for the month. In some way, I think I took a lot more in and enjoyed albums more. Not just the music, but everything; reading the lyrics, looking at the art etc.
I think what Beck is doing here will give me a sense of that again; a piece of art to get lost in and enjoy.
