He didn't make it easy for himself, or others. Career kinda went down the toilet after Humble Pie. More or less deliberately I think, he just couldn't deal with it. I have a live dvd of him playing some bar somewhere in the eighties. He became this fat bloke with a mullet and was wearing a dungaree. Still rocked though. Hell of a guitar player. Pretty sure he would've made a comeback album full of blues greatness if he'd not died so young and was still around today.

He was broke and homeless in the late 70's early 80's and had to resort to picking up plastic bottles for cash. Bad music deals and too much cocaine.
A bit like rubbersoulman, steve always had the voice and the guitar, just as rubbersoulman will always have the soapbox.

One of my all time favourite bands, I guess. Totally flawed, but I cannot not like them. Albums are usually a mix of shit production, loads of filler and the odd killer song. Thunderbox and the self titled one are both magnificent though. The first one cos it's a proper soul and funk album but it rocks really hard as well. The self titled one cos they perfected that weird sound they had in the early years. Sort of hippie/boogie/psychedelia. Quite left field and unique, there's not much else from around that time that sounds like it. Great artwork as well. Keef wanted him in the Stones. Imagine that  |
