Matthew Vaughn is rumoured to be in talks to direct the new Star Wars movie.
Collider reports an unconfirmed rumour that the director, who is best known for helming 2011's X-Men: First Class and 2010's Kick-Ass, is a frontrunner for the seventh film.
Vaughn was originally set to direct the upcoming sequel to X-Men: First Class, but dropped out last month and was swiftly replaced by Bryan Singer.
Harrison Ford is reportedly open to reprising the role of Han Solo in Episode 7.
“There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to ‘Star Trek’, and also just being a [‘Star Wars’] fan, I wouldn’t even want to be involved in the next version of those things.”
"The Wrap is reporting that J.J. Abrams will direct ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ after a long courtship from producer and new Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy. It should be noted that Kennedy was a longtime producer for Steven Spielberg, a good friend and mentor for Abrams. (Interestingly, the report claims that Ben Affleck was the runner-up for the job.) Deadline now confirms the report saying that it’s a “done deal.”"

I'll take Abrams. Really. I think he 'gets' the geek treatment we expect. He's been known for getting films technically correct. There will be hundreds of folks involved making sure he doesn't fuck it up. Disney has to make it epic so it sets up another trilogy. *pushing the chips in*

Yeah I agree with all this. He must've also been offered a SHITLOAD of money to do it, fair play. I'll be at the theater when it comes out, tbh.
I'd be at the theater regardless of who was chosen. Personally I think it's a very predictable & safe choice. Though maybe thats what is needed after the disaster of the last three.
Anyone hear the story with JJ Abrams and the fan with cancer? It was pretty sweet of him.
Ya. I get ya, mahoney But when you look at a lot of bad choices the could have made you have to look at Abrams as a positive. Safe or not, who you gonna hire?
I'd have Robert Rodriguez do a trilogy of Boba Fett bounty hunter films starring Danny 'Machete' Trejo with Danny Glover & Samuel L Jackson playing 'The Dark Side Brothers' in a Blaxsploitation rape & revenge thriller.
.. yeah it's probably best I am not the one to make these decisions I've never seen or been into anything Star Trek related but it seems most the die-hards were happy with the movie so at least someone who has an understanding of sci-fi geekness is taking it on.
