I just saw on twitter that the boys are doing a tour around xmas, which...fine, they still exist and are allowed to make a living when Cradock isn't doing weller stuff, but...their 'very special guests' are...Martha and the vandellas?

I mean...I have a lot of questions about this.
The are headlining a big show in Sheffield on Saturday with The Coral, The Bluetones, Dodgy and The Magic Numbers + a local band. Seems somewhat bizarre to me but there does seem to be a bit of a 90esque revival currently. Despite being briefly tempted, I decided to give it a wide berth.
Rod sent me a link to a quietus article about OCS that had a surprisingly good amount of praise towards them. It got me in the mood, stuck on the B-sides comp which I've probably not heard in 10 years, still stands up. Some fantastic songs on there.
I don't think they've played a north American show in at least 10 years, so I think my one time seeing them do a benefit show at the hard rock café in TCOTU around 10 years ago will be the only time I see them. I'm okay with that. I'd probably drive to montreal (2 hours) if they ever played here, though. (That said, the charlatans are playing montreal next month and even though I've never seen them, I'm not going. Kids are expensive, man.)
They're a band that generally remind me of the so-called 'alternative' music fan from the 90s that claim Oasis were overrated yet loved all the second-rate Britpop bands and could recite the Dodgy b-sides. Yet he still tried to walk like Liam and wore a bucket hat.
"Fuck Oasis, OCS are where it's at" "What's their best album?" "Uh umm errr, the one with Caught The Train on it"
I've never really listened to anything beyond One From The Modern (which I think is a great album; got a real soft spot for it) but I can't deny the strength of their earlier stuff.
Songs For The Front Row is jam packed with absolute tunes, such a great best of.

How could you have never listened to Mosely Shoals?!?!
Robin Hood is a tune, couple of other songs made my willy do a 360 during the indie mania disco classics club scene, other than that they’re abit shit aren’t they?
