been away for a while but gotta say a few words about this.
nadal was immense tbh, after the first week there was no doubt in my mind he was gonna win it. got him at 5/1 at the start of the tournament as well so made a little bit of money off it too (only put 10 on it but still).
but the big story was djokovic for me, right back to his best and was great to see. haven't seen him play that well probably since he won aus in 2008, though he was good in rome 2009 as well. hope he can maintain that level because it's great to watch.
murray, well yeah that was awful. i suspect he puts himself under far too much personal pressure at the us open because he thinks it's his best chance of a win (he's wrong imo) and he can't really handle it mentally. was also very weird to see him struggling for fitness in that match but again i think that was exaggerated by his body language, he beat himself he really did.
it was a real shame because, french open aside (which he'll likely never make a big impact at), this year he's been great at slams and was winning matches he had a tendency to lose in the past, and with some style (cilic in aus, tsonga at wimbledon). i'm sure he'll come back strong cause he's been in great form the 2nd half of this year.
his new coach (assuming he gets one) will have to play a key role at this point. murray's game has developed to the point where he's never gonna lose to someone like wawrinka, which is good as he's a more complete player than he was last year, but mentally he's still fragile. problem is he never turns negative emotion into anything positive on court, he just implodes and then you just know he's gonna lose. a new coach will have to attempt to put a stop to that sharpish, or else it'll prove to be a self-perpetuating problem that will quickly and permanently knacker his chances of winning a slam.
