A few of you will know from my Facebook updates that I'm trying to organise a neo-psych/shoegaze night in Belfast. After initially being frustrated that the manager of the venue I wanted to use ... after sounding up for it ... then went quiet on me. Well yesterday he invited me along for a chat. I managed to convince him that what I was trying to do would work for his club and for me. Spent about an hour talking it over with him, outlining my plans etc. He's giving me the club on the last Friday of January or the first Friday in February for £50 and even apologised for being a bit of a shit with me in the e:mails. Going to get a few nights under my belt and then hopefully start booking bands. Venue hire for a gig is £130 which includes a sound engineer, then it'll be a matter of getting bands sorted. I've talked about doing this for years and have never bothered my arse until now so I can't wait to get going. The venue is amazing too, a shithole I admit but it's cool as fuck. Owned by David Holmes who I know loves his psych so I'm going to see if he would DJ the opening night. Attachments:

Great stuff man There needs to be more specialist nights out there, I don't know about Belfast but aside from the constant of electronic nights all over town and Manchester's original 2 indie clubs (which are fucking shit) there's fucking nothing out there that offers anything remotely different or special.

Good work Johnny. Sounds like it'll be ace. Specialist club nights are the only ones I bother with these days. There's a couple of reggae/ska nights in Edinburgh that I absolutely love. Indie nights have died a death, thank god.

I dunno about that Chris. There's nothing wrong with an indie night per sé, but it's just that they've been full of cunts for about the last seven years.

Johnny, do the first Friday of February, most people don't get paid until the end of the month so might be a bit skint, the first Friday of the month, people might be a bit more flush and inclined to go out.

That is the one I said I wanted for the exact reason you have mentioned Kev. Contacted a few peeps regarding DJ sets and they seem up for it, they aren't looking paid either which is good. I have a couple of friends who do graphic design so hopefully they'll come up with a bitching poster and again they aren't looking paid, and I have a friend who is a printing engineer and he'll do mates rates so I'm hopeful I can keep overheads down because even though I'm not out to make a massive amount of dough through this I don't want to be spending loads either.

Done a couple of other mock ups. The first one is to announce the initial first night so is nothing more than the date and the facebook link, and the second is an attempt at the actual poster for the first night. Will probably tweek the poster a lot but considering i haven't an artistic bone in my body and no photoshop skills whatsoever i'm pleased with them.

Did the first one in Friday night and ended up making a decent profit without filling the place, the bar must have done well though cause they want us back for a second night.
Reckon I'm on to a winner here.

Glad it went well Johnny. Was worried you'd be in an empty venue on your knees in tears whilst leave them all behind blasted out of the speakers.
Would you be able to put bands on at this night? It's a good way of getting more people through the door. There must be some local bands that fit the bill that'd be happy to play for next to nothing.
