Don't apologise, Kanye wouldn't.

I just don't get the appeal of Kanye at all. I didn't mind My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy & could actually understand why it appealed to people so much. But his last two records just sound like a massive joke that I'm not in on. That fucking bullshit voice effect he constantly uses is just awful. The type of beats he uses are so unappealing. The majority of the time he sounds completely half-arsed. Nothing he says is ever that interesting, especially given the fact you've got the likes of Kendrick and even Beyonce making big bold political statements at an important time in history, whilst Kanye is happy to sing with his pathetic little voice effect about his own celebrity. I mean, I get it, rappers sing about themselves, most my favourites do, but there's usually a sense of charm about what they are doing, a hint of irony. I'm sure someone will reply telling me that this is there.. well I don't detect it. He isn't interesting enough to me as a celebrity to warrant the lazy music. Half his new record nobody would give a flying fuck about if it was from Waka Flocka Flame, Wiz Khalifa or some other useless disposable pop star rapper. Somehow Kanye gets a pass because "he's Kanye" Oh & I fucking HATE how he has to be extra emphasis on the final word of every line he delivers, like a 12 year old girl on facebook. OLD MAN MAHONEY STRIKES AGAIN. (& no, I won't be doing a U-turn come december )

I really rated Kanye's Glasto set and loved his first two LPs (calm down fanbois) but I agree with a lot of Old Man Mahoney's points about his recent work. That vocal effect IS awful, and lyrically, he doesn't have a lot to say about anything that isn't himself. The recent Twitter meltdown has been hugely amusing, but doesn't reflect well on his mental state.

On first listen the new Fat White Family album is so disappointing. Unforgivably, it's just boring. Big step backwards.

I'm enjoying the new Kanye actually, I just really like that kind of sound, like futuristic synthy r n b / hip hop with some scattergun bits of soul. However I can completely understand why anyone would hate him, his lyrics are often tiresome and I just don't think he's a particularly good rapper. He's definitely got ability to whack out good interesting productions though. Anyway, fuck Kanye. Been listening to Hinds for 2 months now and i'm completely in love with this band. I spend my time at work listening to the album constantly and my time at home watching videos on youtube like some demented lovesick teenager. Saw them play a sold out gig in Manchester on saturday night and it was absolutely mega to see they can actually play live (a little sloppy in places but that's their style). So much spirit, charm and youthfulness in their songs. I mean just listen to this FFS ....

Glad for you and glad for them but I don't buy it, just can't. The style is very close to what I dig and truth is the way they mix the voices is quite cool but that's about it. Hope to catch 'em live though.

Yeah, I just don't get Hinds.
One song I heard last year made me think I'd love them but I just can't get into the new album. Maybe I'll try again.

Purling Hiss - Something EP is fantastic, starts sounding like Ramones and ends with Dinosaur Jr. vibes. Yuck record seemed quite dull on first listen. DMA's leaked, will wait until anybody else touches it first

I'm really disappointed with Steve Mason's new record after 3 listens. He's dropped the politics in favour of pretty much nothingness. A huge chunk of the record sounds like if Ian Brown joined Elbow, which isn't a good thing. A shame because I really loved his first two records, this I'm not sure is going to do it for me
