Queens of the Stone Age last night in Des Moines. They are touring in support of their debut re-release. The entire debut was the first set.
Josh Homme is a lot of fun to watch and they sounded great.
7/10

my camera. 9.5/10 AMAZING. Loved it and it was everything I expected and a little bit more. Not a perfect 10 because the crowd was not totally into it as I would have liked and there were a couple of idiots around too. The place was too big for their local audience. Setlist was almost two hours long even if they are not that many songs: The Fear Worm Mountain Silver Trembling Hands She Don't Use Jelly The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Pt. 1 See the Leaves Laser Hands The Ego's Last Stand Pompeii Am Götterdämmerung What Is the Light? The Observer Race for the Prize Do You Realize??

Went and saw Asobi Seksu again. I've seen em 5 times over the last 6 months or so, so its pretty much more of the same. I love Yuki so much though. Goddamn.
However, the openers I have a bit more to say about. First was Brooklyn's ZaZa. I had heard of them before as a girl I used to be close with is pretty high on them. I don't really listen to her when it comes to music, but I wasn't unimpressed. The lead chick wasn't blow-you-away hot, but the look on her face onstage was just cock tingling. I dunno what else to say about her. She was pretty mesmerizing. The music was kind of a hybrid School of Seven Bells, dream pop, shoegaze, but not at all unpleasant. That chick though, fuck. She had this kind of odd grin on her face while playing the bass.
The second opener was Sean Lennon's new "band" if you want to call it that. They're called "Consortium Musicum", but it should be called "Consortium of Total Fucking Shit". Basically it was Lennon and a drummer making noise for 45 minutes, and when I say noise, I mean unmelodic, annoying fucking noise. The drummer was pretty badass though. It seems that Sean is trying to channel his own Yoko noise phase since being a John-like troubadour hasn't worked out for him. It reminded me A LOT of Fantomas, but Lennon doesn't have near the amount of talent as Mike Patton. Really fucking annoying. Too bad the "music" he was playing tonight was literally headache inducing. It made no sense to me and I ended up going back down to the bar about midway through that mess.
Asobi Seksu 8/10 Consortium Musicum 0/10 - Truly the worst thing Ive witnessed since regular gig going has been resumed. ZaZa 7/10

They only have an EP, lmk if you want and I can turtle it. The Black Angels - Bowery Ballroom What an incredible, amazing, literally perfect show. Was with our own Themis for this one and we had a fucking blast. For my money this is the best American live band going today. Pitch perfect setlist, played every single song I wanted to hear and I could've easily endured 3-4 hours of them. Luckily got them again tonight (Saturday) in Brooklyn. Just brilliant. One of those gigs you leave on a high and just want more. Opening was Montreal's "Suuns". They weren't bad. Pretty much a noise rock band, but they can definitely go and had some really good moments. The headliner blew them the fuck offstage though. Suuns 7/10 The Black Angels 10/10

Peter Bjorn & John last Friday - you can tell that the royalty cheques have come in for these guys. they were dressed in standard indie vintage back when I last saw them, now they've all got expensive-looking leather jackets and sharp haircuts, with the swagger to match. great band tho, i rate the new album. 8. Edinburgh's finest twee indiepop band of the past few years - the snappily titled Futuristic Retro Champions - played their last ever gig last night they're a good wee band, despite being sweeter than drinking bag of Tate & Lyle. sad to see them go, but in true Vaselines style, the bird/guy doubleact are no longer knobbing each other, so they've decided to call it quits. i'll post their LP if i remember, recon a few people on here would love them. top gig. 7.

They've never played anywhere in Ireland. There is no band touring right now that i want to see more than them. Next time they're playing in the UK i'm going, i don't care when or where, i'll be there.

Tamaryn - death/10 The Raveonettes - 7/10
Tamaryn is horrible, hipster bullshit. Especially live. I wanted to punch someone it was so bad. Worst opening act I've seen, besides local bands n shit. The Raveonettes were mostly good but Forget That You're Young sounded like a bad karaoke version. Other than that they were pretty good. Tiny club too, was a cool venue to see them in.

Went to see Les Savy Fav a while back at the Aberdeen Tunnels. Made a cd for a mate of mine of the best few tracks of theirs, but I don't think he was halfway prepared for the fat bald grown man in his forties dressed in a women's blouse and an indian heddress, waltzing his way through the crowd in order to get to the stage. Who is? Fuckin intense frontman, pulled women in the audience, started piley-ons, put the mic in just about everyone's face, climbed the bar, climbed the railings, kicked open the fire exit doors, ran out the fire exit doors....but even besides the boys obvious insanity=entertainment quality was the fact that the band are tight as fuck, and tunes like Patty Lee, Who rocks the Party, Lips N Stuff and Lets Get Out of Here are beastin beyond belieft. Top gig. 9/10.
Went to the SECC barn in Glasgow with the missus for a gig in April (fucking loving the Bier Halles in glasgow over the past few months I gotta add, two for one pizzas, mega beers and £1 schnapps, solid). Anyway, support act was Villagers. Wasnae really feeling his half-Fields, half-David Gray stuff. 5/10.
Elbow were marvellous. They honestly made that shithole of a venue feel like they were playing the Tunnels in Aberdeen, thanks to Guy Garvey being one of the most affable, charming and endlessly watchable frontmen going. With Love, Station Approach and Great Expectations were highlights for me, and its hard to deny that although its now associated with being "soundtrack to the golf on bbc" or fitever, One Day like This was a delight as a closer. 8/10.
Back to the Tunnels the night after Elbow, hardworking bunch Indian Red Lopez were supporting, and although they are a bit samey, they're a decent enough white-cunts-wi-guitars support act, bloc partyish, 6/10.
The last time I saw The Phantom Band, three of them were in KLF-style sequins cloaks and they were playing material solely drawn from their lacklustre first album. Even then they were ace, but now they're armed with a second album that is full of incredible songs, as well as the 4-5 tracks off their debut that are good. Rick Redbeard is another captivating frontman in a post full of them, but I absolutely urge anyone on the forum to go see them live, its likely to be inexpensive and they are fucking unbelievable. Howling, O, Folk Song Oblivion, A Glamour and Into the Corn were my favourites on the night, but the whole set was no-filler. 9/10

Saw this same lineup tonight. I liked Tamaryn's record going in and while I thought they pulled off a few good songs, I was left underwhelmed. Bored almost. I definitely can't say they were even close to the worst thing Ive ever seen, but I had hoped for a lot more. The Raveonettes were good. I think homeboy's guitar was out of tune in some places and he kept fucking around with it. Kind of a clunky gig, but definitely enjoyable. The new material sounded great alongside the old. Tamaryn 4/10 The Raveonettes 7/10
