And they were playing the worst venue in the Twin Cities, The Fine Line Music Cafe
terrible, terrible sightlines, and shit sound quality.
Ohh, overpriced drinks and the fire alarm always goes off anytime anybody uses foggers.
Not a good venue!

The Blue Angel Lounge
So damn good! German psychedelic band. Shame it was such a short set (about 45 minutes) but they were on point. Played a nice mix of the 1st and 2nd records. Really sweet venue too, very small. Nils has a great voice live. Sounds good on record, but his chops were even more impressive in person. I hope they get some recognition and to see them again.
Got some good photos and videos I'm upping shortly.
8/10
Pissed me off there was this band from Montreal on first (Karkwa) and a shitton of French Canadian folk in the audience, and they all left afterwards, so BAL didn't have a huge audience. Oh well, their fucking loss. The French act was ok though.

I imagine most people on here would dig BAL. Johnny does for sure and retiredboxer too I think, Ill turtle their shit in a bit. Anton Newcombe produced their 2nd record and Matt Hollywood was at the gig tonight as he's with them on the road I believe, and is DJing at the venue. I thought for SURE Anton was there, but it wasn't him. Yea, I didnt mind Karkwa at all. I had never heard of them, so Im downloading their shit right now. It was their first NYC gig, and yea they deffo played that one, people went mental for it. Heres my Blue Angel Lounge videos and a few pics, got some good quality out of it.

Camden Crawl yesterday
Had a fucking amazing day, the fact they had the outdoor stage in the day from 12-6 before the main venues started made it feel like a proper festival. Got into the outdoor arena which was basically a closed off road with the stage at one end at about 1 to make sure I'd be there for Odd Future. Saw: Dinosaur Pile Up, they were a decent 3-piece sort of Vines/Nirvana type deal. If I was 16 I'd probably love them. Engine Earz Experience, not very good S.C.U.M., totally surprised by these. Had just assumed they were shit but they had a really big sound & wasn't too far off being shoegaze. Really impressed will definitely check their LP out when it comes out. Cerebal Ballzy, proper old-skool hardcore punk with some black bloke on vocals screaming with every tune lasting about 50 seconds. Not my thing but I dug the energy of it & was fun while it lasted. Odd Future. amazing, check the OF thread for the video. Probably the gig of the year so far off the top of my head. Left the outdoor arena and ended up in some Goth pub for a few drinks. Went over to the Black Cap to see Sissy & The Blisters, standard indie guitar music but I thought they were OK. Moved on to the Black Heart which I'd never heard of to see Spectrals. Pub was cool but being a pub venue they had no stage so couldn't see fuck all and the sound was a bit poo but I thought they seemed pretty good. Good jangly guitar sound with shadow puppet style vocals. After that jumped on the tube down the road to the Forum. Saw the second half of Guillemots, shit band & then The Lemonheads. Kind of disappointing Lemonheads because they had an hour set 10-11 yet only played for 45 minutes. Still flew through their set probably did 15+ songs with no stopping inbetween so of course it was really good. Just would of been nice for Evan to come back and maybe play a couple more numbers. Went back into Camden, tried to get into the Electric Ballroom to see Razorlight but couldn't be dealing with the queue so went down to Koko & watched Simian Mobile Disco which I thought was completely shit generic bullshit. Surprised so many people on here dig them tbh. Didn't help I was fucked by then, the crowd were cunts & I can't stand Koko so was a bit of a disappointing end to the day. Still I had a fucking amazing time especially as I was going basically to see the Lemonheads & didn't think I'd see OF & nothing else really interested me.
Top, top day.

nice one. didnt you go a few years ago and say it was shit? good to hear its improved a bit.
dinosaur pile ups drummer is from norwich. seen them a couple of times and thought they were real average live but have some decent tunes on record.
i did the same as you with SCUM always saw the name around and thought they sounded like bellends but caught the end of their set at field day the other year and they looked well good. i think tim burgess is a fan too.
im a huge fan of spectrals too, also i believe stockys brother has an amazing story related to them.

I've been a few times, it used to be on a thursday/friday and basically started at about 5 so really it would be like going to a normal gig anyway just having to change venues. Being on bank holiday weekend u can do alot more. They had quite a bit going on during the day other than bands. films being shown, arts, bingo & some other odds & sodds though I didn't see any of that. I've had a good time whenever I've been but yeah it's much better now. Just you have to obviously get to venues early for big bands.

SCUM, I thought would be a load of shouty noise plus I only ever hear the name cos the singers with Peaches Geldof but they were fucking good.

Just got back from seeing The Rifles. They played an acoustic set, consisting mostly of old material. Solid performance, but I liked the German support act Fertig, Los! better to be honest 7,5/10 nonetheless

Fleet Foxes
Great performance. However, it was a seated gig. I felt fucking detached from it. Its one thing if its a play or a movie, but when its musical, you want to move and feel the energy. Just can't in a seated gig. It felt like a recital. They were great, as I'd expect, but I'm disappointed that it was a seated gig.
7/10 - would be higher, but it just lacked a connection being seated.
After it, I was thinking back to my last seated gig. Its been at least a decade. Glad they're not often.

Some of the best live harmonies Ive ever heard though. They're such a tight band in every way. Just wish there had been a chance for the crowd to give back that energy other than cheering.

Das Racist last Friday @ Manchester Roadhouse. Their mixtapes are excellent and this gig was fun despite them having the tallest fans of all time so we didn't get to see a great deal. Not much more to say about it than that I suppose. To flesh it out, we went oot afterwards and in one of the bars my mate went outside for a smoke and we saw him chatting to Das Racist. So we went outside as well and ruined his blossoming friendship 7.0/10

Gruff Rhys @ Knitting Factory 10/10 It was great, really small place. it was kind of slow at the beginning and a bit depressing, but as soon as Y Niwl started playing the mood in the place changed completely. I saw Gruff a couple of hours before, he was walking by with someone, seeing him again in a month. imageshack.us/photo/my-images/402/picture818g.jpg/ [/img]

Yes, Im looking forward to the Mercury show! That will be great.
Fleet Foxes Night #2
I preferred it tonight, mainly because I knew what to expect mood wise with the seated BS. Fuck, they are so damn good.
9/10
