What I would like to ask, and have been meaning to for a while is: why does cricket get so much coverage? I mean surely it's very disproportionate? I understand that the English enjoy it but that can't warrant the sheer amount of TV time it gets, especially on Sky Sports. SSN is about 60% cricket news, all day, everyday. WHY? It's got to be one of the least watched sports (well, out of the popular ones) in the UK yet it's on constantly.
I'm not exactly fussed about it, infact I'm more frustrated at the fact that I don't understand it than anything else, it's just always confused me as to why it's on so often. We've only ever had about 3 cricket threads in Soapbox history too and it's mostly English folk on here.
It's all very curious. I was going to stick this in the current Pakistan-related cricket thread but I want answers now.

I think living in Scotland you don't realise how many people in England watch it.
And we all know England is basically the UK so...

I'd never started a Cricket thread because I never really thought anyone on here was interested, Its my favourite sport tbf. Especially since I became more frustrated with football.
Its popular in England, and it fills a hole in sky's programming.

One day I'll work out what's going on in a game of cricket and I'll never have to change the channel when it's all over SSN again. I hear Twenty20 cricket is a bit easier to get into so maybe some day I'll really give it a try.
Then again probably not.

Especially if there is fuck all else on. Still its all about test match cricket to me.

Was really into my cricket mid 90's until we won the ashes again, since then Sky have practically bought cricket so I see absolutely nothing these days so my interest has totally gone in how the England team are doing.
Though a few months back ITV had the IPL & I fucking loved watching it, fucking sky.
In answer to your question Andy, Sky does have a bit of cricket on SSN but no where near 60%, before the football season when they've nothing but speculation to go on you get more but as always with sky they will only bother to give sports which they own proper coverage on their news channel.

It is a bit silly, but it does have its place. Unfortunately they have nearly killed it already through over exposure.

Are you still interested in the premier league? And the England football team? Just seems an odd thing to say considerng sky's intrenchment in football.

I still get to see 50% of englands matches plus major tournaments, the occasional premier league game in the pub, european matches, F.a cup & whatnot. Isn't like I never see any, unless I wanna stay up until 11 every night and watch rubbish highlights of the cricket I've no other options.
Though even my interest in the premier league has slowly become less and less over the years.

My interest has waned aswell, I thought you were more into football than than that, I'm pretty much the same as you in regard to football. Still can't wait for the Ashes though, I dont have sky but fuck them. TMS>>>>>>>leef

Is just hard to care about something you can barely feel a part of, I could make the effort to follow the games a bit more but I've just lost interest

More confusion on my part here. All I keep hearing about recently is England v. Pakistan. How the fuck long do they play each other? Hasn't it been about a month this has been going on? And to add to the madness it's apparently called a 'one day international'
Someone is having a fucking giraffe.

Aye but if there's a bloody months worth of cricket to be watching you'd need to re-mortgage your house.

Aye but if there's a bloody months worth of cricket to be watching you'd need to re-mortgage your house. You don't go to every game, most people will go to one day of a test match and one maybe two of the shorter games depending where you live. Remember as well that the tickets are cheaper in relation to other sports being as its a full day out.
