I just gave it a quick listen yesterday, so I might change my mind. But I wouldn't call it terrible, just... underwhelming. I mean, I love the guy and his voice and I'm always glad when he comes back but... it all feels too unnecessary. Baz might be right about his white old rock males rant, although I'm pretty sure I still enjoy more the 7th track of the 5th Richard Ashcroft record than the new Skepta's single.

You're so edgy these days, Baz.

:D i just wanna hear music with guitars that i like, Rod. That's the music I grew up with and avoided girls to. I just struggle with the the idea that something that will unseat the soul will come from contented, well-fed 45 year olds who have shown no artistic progression since their heydays.

Actually, talking about guitar music, that new Car Seat Headrest record is pretty fucking good.

that's cool and all, but it doesn't really mean anything. some shit isn't for us, unless we are willing to put the time in to understand where they are coming from and what they are aiming to do. why would you possibly instinctively prefer a skepta track or album* (which is pretty much pointed towards building on contemporary buzz towards grime from the US) over an artist who is doing more of the same stuff you usually listen to in his dotage? it's like asking a vegan their opinion on the latest steak restaurant.** each artist and album has a different relevance at a different point in time to a different, increasingly cross-pollinated, bunch of people, unless the music is actually timeless which is rarer than a double digit rolli chromosome.

*new skepta album is only a small step above average anyway
**to which i'd assume they'd answer "i'm vegan' 5 times

everyone on here gives Noel such a hard time for being middle aged dad rock but Ashcroft has lost the plot so much more severely! these last couple of tunes are just rubbish!

Jesus, I saw this thread and thought "maybe his new album leaked!" And then it took me going through the whole thread to remember it came out months ago and I'd already listened to it twice. It's just that memorable.
