Noel Gallagher has finally gone on record to address claims his ‘Holy Mountain’ song bears resemblance to Ricky Martin’s 2000 song ‘She Bangs’.

“I must say, out of all the things I’ve read, the one thing that was never played to me in the studio was ‘Ricky Martin’,” he said, admitting that the two songs shared a vaguely similar-sounding chorus. “The only similarity, his tune goes – as I remember it – ‘She bangs! She bangs!’ So it’s the phrasing of the words. That’s it. I understand people have mundane jobs and they’ve got nothing better to do, so they can comment on stuff.”

After describing his scissors-playing bandmate – Charlotte Marionneau of Le Volume Courbe – as the “greatest thing” he’s ever seen, Noel has now admitted that he knew it would annoy Liam.

Speaking to Radio X, Noel recalled what he told bass player Russell Pritchard when Marionneau first pulled out the scissors: “I went ‘Do you know what that sound is? That’s the sound of Liam glassing himself’. We laughed.”

Noel went on to add: “Then on the night it was on the TV, somebody quipped: ‘It’s almost like she’s snipping away at the last ribbons of Liam’s sanity!’ We laughed all the way home.”

“I adore that girl, she’s amazing,” he added of Marionneau. “She means it, this is not a joke.”
