That commentary... is that acceptable in your parts SRK?
Just noticed this post. The guy who does the play by play for the main broadcast of the Canadian games is without a doubt the single worst announcer I have ever heard. I almost prefer watching the games on mute. Fucking hate him.
Fakeedit: whoever is announcing in the clip above isn't him. The guy I'm talking about is a terrible canadian announcer who is bound and determined to get his "Oh Canada! Oh baby!" catchphrase over at the expense of everything else. Just the worst.
The atmosphere in that stadium was like nothing I've ever experienced. There was an expectation that it was going to happen when we got there, since it was fucking FREEZING, which is obviously not ideal if you're a jamaican. The stadium in Toronto is right on Lake Ontario, so the wind was whipping around like crazy, with occasional bits of drifting snow. Game started out a bit frenetic, with the jamaicans getting a couple of decent breaks on the counter and us missing a few decent chances, but 13 minutes in...boom. The collective release of breath from the crowd was mental. Another one before the break and it was party time. Probably due to my residual city-itis and 35 years as a Leafs fan, but even though Jamaica was offering NOTHING in the 2nd half, and we just needed a draw to qualify, I was still tense, until the 3rd goal went in, and I'm not ashamed to admit, it got a bit dusty at old BMO field. 32 years of having to adopt Ireland or Italy as "my team" for the world cup and finally MY team is going. What a day, what a fucking day.
Oh yeah, one other thing: the ref was from mexico, and despite 2 goals, an injury and various other stoppages, he only gave 1 minute of added time in the first half. Despite 2 more goals, many other subs and injuries, I turned to my buddy at around 88 minutes and said "you watch, there'll be exactly 5 seconds of stoppage time". 90:05 - final whistle. The poor bugger was frozen.
