Nice one guys. I've found it really interesting how the majority of film critics & even our own lists are so similar this year. Any thoughts on this? I'm thinking that perhaps it really was an outstanding year with the cream rising to the top. Or perhaps nowadays with streaming services critically acclaimed material is heard by a larger audience due to ease of availability. Or perhaps everybody is just becoming dull & predictable? Not that I use streaming services but the whole "if you like this you'll like" era we are in I think is kind of dangerous, maybe I'm old school but I'd much rather be recommended something by somebody I like than a computer automation that decides for me was just rereading this thread whilst thinking about my list for this year and this post stood out. i've a feeling this year is going to be quite the opposite of this. i get the impression there won't really be a general consensus either with the critics or amongst us on this forum this year. i know most of my top 10 at the moment im not really expecting to see on many other lists.

^both really interesting points. i guess the simplest explanation is that a bunch of big hitters released strong albums last year, whereas this year i can't think of many huge/important established artists releasing stuff, therefore consensus is weaker.
FWIW, i think this year has still been fucking great (not as good as last year though), every week spotify discover weekly basically delivers a bunch of good tracks and that can still filter through to your mates/peers saying "you got to hear this".
tis a fine time to be discovering music and peoples tastes are becoming more and more boundless.

tbh I think last year there were more coincidences than two years ago, I guess the trend here is to differ more and more
