I’ve too much to catch up on here to spend time calling out each of Lino’s questionable opinions. But Jesus wept.
Fade Away: an absolute screamer of a song, in my top five or so Oasis tunes and definitely my favourite of the b-sides to the DM singles. Liam’s vocal is amazing, Noel’s guitar sounds like it’s going to take off and the nod to Mouse Trap is quite a nice touch especially given Andy Bell would later join the band. The less said about the Warchild version the better.
Fade In-Out: Love this too, although it’s perhaps the least accessible song on BHN. I would have loved to have heard them play this live with a long intro, although no doubt Noel would have instructed any drummer post-Alan White to make it a dull plod. The scream is incredible.
Falling Down: anodyne but I don’t dislike it.
Flashbax: shite.
Force of Nature: offensively shite.
Fuckin’ in the Bushes: what a banger. Possibly should have been a single, or at least a white label release (I’m pretty sure there wasn’t one) - it should have had more play in indie clubs over the years.
Full On: another one I’ve had to dig out after years without hearing it. A passable pre-chorus amongst an otherwise lumpen pub-rock number. Noel’s vocals don’t work for this kind of song but I’d be amazed if Liam could have been arsed singing it.
Gas Panic!: superb and one of Noel’s last truly great songs. I love every version of this including the demo, and it should have stayed in the live set much longer than they did - pretty sure it got a few outings as the last song pre-encore in 2002, before they dropped it for Acquiesce…
Go Let it Out: Perfect. Possibly my favourite Oasis recording, I love everything about it from the shuffling drum loop to the grunts to the mellotron to the climax and the whistle and everything resolving into a major key for the last chorus. Noel’s recent live versions are an abomination.
Going Nowhere: this reminds me of listening to The Masterplan after school when I was about 14. I loved the song at the time but now find it a bit mawkish and can’t really think of a time when I’d want to hear it.
Half the World Away: the thinking man’s Talk Tonight, with the melancholy being offset by the playful outro. Also one of my old man’s two favourite Oasis songs (the other being Some Might Say).
Headshrinker: powerful. Agree with Sully that the great thing about this is its energy rather than getting rid of rhymes (WTF Lino). I love the breakdown after the solo and before the last chorus.
Hello: a great glam stomp and wonderful album opener with some of Alan White’s best drumming. It’s a tune I always forget about until I put the album on and then I love it. One of the highlights of WTSMG for me.

I hope this thread dies before Noel. I’m quite pleased with how it’s going. We should reach the final song in June as I do try to stick to a song a day. Some of the opinions have been surprising; I knew I’d be out of step on a few tracks but I like the shared affection for some of those “lesser” Be Here Now numbers. My issue with Headshrinker wasn’t the rhymes - it’s that the headshrinker in question needn’t be a part of the song. It detracts from its universality.

Missed another day; sorry guise.
Helter Skelter
I have a lot of time for Noel's covers (as we'll see next time), but this one is pretty dire. Taking one of the wildest, loudest, most manic Beatles songs and turning it into this dull, sludgy mess was quite the mistake. 3/10
Heroes
Cover of Bowie's track, previously well known for being covered by the Wallflowers and released through the 1998 Godzilla soundtrack, Noel sings (screams) and changes some of the lyrics. Is it better than Bowie? Sure but that's no surprise. It's mixed pretty badly as was the habit of the time (Be Here Now), with countless guitar tracks laid over the top of each other to the point of confusion (a far cry from the very pretty mix of, say, Don't look back in anger), but I did and still do enjoy it - 7/10.
How about you all?

The Clash, Bowie, Prince and The Beastie Boys are four acts I have a quite possibly irrational hatred for - I'm glad I've seen them all come to an end as morbid as that may be. I'd rank the Bee Gees over Bowie, especially when it comes to acts filed under "B". But still, this isn't the Bowie thread - what do you make of these Oasis tracks? I didn’t expect there to be so much love for Oasis’ Helter Skelter; look - I just don’t think it’s much cop.
Feel free to rate it higher.

Hey Now!
The redheaded stepchild of WTSMG, never performed live (right?), it's overly long with little to say, and the first verse repeated at the end. Weather references, rambling empty lyrics - "the first thing I saw as I walked through the door was a sign on the wall that read; it said you might never know that I want you to know what's written inside of your head" - what? The demo is garbage; I was amazed to hear the leap from that to the album track, as dull as it still is. 6/10.
You?

Can we move on from my opinion of Bowie, please? What do you make of those Oasis tracks - Helter Skelter, Heroes, and Hey Now? Hello: a great glam stomp and wonderful album opener with some of Alan White’s best drumming. It’s a tune I always forget about until I put the album on and then I love it. One of the highlights of WTSMG for me. Yep - can you imagine Hello with Tony on drums? Alan is a massive part of the Oasis sound.
