I Hope, I Think, I KnowAs mentioned earlier, this is a song I always saw as a sibling to fellow album track My big mouth - this is big sounding, opening with a howling riff much like Step Out and The Fame, the lyrics are brash and cocky (and cokey) with arrogance in spades ("The future's mine and it's no disgrace, 'cos in the end the past means nothing") and a bit of nastiness ("Who's gonna miss you when you're not there? You know I don't care"). I like that the chorus is almost one long sentence - it seems to be speaking of Oasis/Noel reminding themselves not to take criticism too seriously, while also acknowledging the cheeky borrowing and stealing that's been a part of Noel's songs from the start.
It's close to a 7, 6/10. 'Cocaine, and limitless mounds of it' is probably a more succinct and accurate answer. I Hope, I Think, I Know is magic, love it. Makes you brush off the self-doubt without pause. Feels really natural in the type of song that really needs it. One of the most underrated Oasis tunes ever. 10/10

I'd have I Hope, I Think, I Know as my third favourite off BHN after My Big Mouth and Fade In-Out. Effortless tune with excellent lyrics. These kinda tunes put the ballads to shame on this record. I genuinely didn't know I Believe In All existed I'll have a listen and let you know, lino.

In the end your life means nothing
Such a brilliant lyric, I love it's unintended double meaning. Unless? Just a great 'fuck you' line yet hammered home with some depressing realism. Anyway it's about the love/hate relationship with the press, yeah? A tune that's perhaps better described as the attractive liberal trendy sister of murdering racist UKIP voting brother Hung In A Bad Place. Close one.

The Mystique Demo with Liam's voice would be superb.

Lino is paying me 10p per post for such role, I couldn't refuse
Smoking all my stash and burning all my cash: exploring the advantageous themes of capitalism through Lino paypalling me dough. A nice little number: NOT THE SONG, THAT IS

Close one. sully it's so cute when you try to extrapolate layers of meaning from Oasis lyrics We know that a lot of Noel's lyrics are just random phrases that rhyme, but I don't think they start that way. There's probably a germ of a theme for most songs - maybe just a single couplet - that the rest is thrown onto. I have important things to say ~40 days from now.Knowing that a lot of people here like IHITIK makes me like it more. Idler's DreamNoel sung ballad, Heathen Chemistry era b-side, the novelty of it being the first and only Oasis track without guitar faded quickly - the lyrics are okay, and it's a haunting melody but still very slight. I remember people creaming their jeans over it on previous versions of this board (or was it A.M.O?) - Originally a six, on reflection and further listening it's only just a 4/10.

I'm Outta TimeSecond and final Liam penned Oasis single, it's a confused effort from final album DOYS. Of course there's a reference to it being a song in the lyrics; heck it's the opening line "Here's a song". Who the song is about or aimed at kind of bounces around a bit. "When we were young" - is it about Noel? It can't be about a lover. If he's to fall will Noel be there to applaud? He probably would have been, but as it turned out Liam's début album (let's ignore Beady Eye) was a roaring success. Pretty dull video, though Liam still looks cool, even with that hat (the alternative cut isn't any better with Liam wading through a swamp). The Lennon quote at the end doesn't really fit the song. It's weird. Covered by Lily Allen in 2011. 6/10 In the end your life means nothing Such a brilliant lyric, I love it's unintended double meaning. Unless? What do you mean by this? What's the double meaning? What's "unless"?

It's Better People
Decent light acoustic track, though as with some other Oasis lyrics, my miss-heard lines are better than the actual words. I like that the title is a fragment of a line, but surely the final line of that opening verse should be "It's better people speak to each other, 'cos saying's not enough" instead of "your shame is not enough"?
I'm also irritated by the "If without when" error - "If everybody came alive, and stayed alive, and lived their lives instead - yeah".
The little tin whistle in the background always annoyed me; back in the days of Nokia ringtones I always thought I was hearing someone's nearby phone rather than being part of the song. 5/10

It's Gettin' Better (Man!!)
Glorious near-closer to Be Here Now, it loud and long, with a mini second verse sparing us the habitual "repeat the first verse instead of writing a second one" that Noel all too often fell back upon.
Massive guitar solo after a solid run-up; a solo that ends with what sounds like a jet plane swooping down to shave the top of your head clean off, this is another fantastic tune that's probably underrated in the grand scheme of it all.
Almost a perfect Oasis song, it's a 9/10

got some catching up to do.... guess god thinks im abel - one of the better tunes from don't believe the truth. always enjoyed this and actually listening to this again right now this sounds pretty good. half the world away - always used to like this but its one i think thats really been tainted for me by being overplayed like dont look back in anger. good tune but not one i'd ever choose to stick on nowadays. headshrinker - fucking yes. love punky oasis like this. hello - always been a big fan of this one and the live version was excellent. always felt proper edgy listening to this when i was about 12 because it said shit in it. little did i know it was actually even edgier than that by sampling a fucking nonce. helter skelter - nah mate. takes everything that makes the original so good and turns it into dull noelrock. heroes - actually quite like this cover. fairly true to the original and noel sounds like hes got a bit of fire in his belly. decent. hey now! - the perfect example of a 7/10 oasis tune. perfectly good and liam sounds great in places but not on the same level as much of what it was surrounded by on wtsmg. hung in a bad place - pretty poor yet there are at least 4 worse tunes on heathen chemistry. fucking hell. i believe in all - as ive said previously i like liams vocals from these earlier tunes but he sounds slightly strained here. not particularly memorable at all this one. i can see a liar - average rocker. don't hate this at all but wouldn't be upset to never hear it again. i hope i think i know - one of my favourite oasis songs. everything about this is fucking perfect. criminally underrated. give this a 10 from me please lino. idler's dream - always been a huge fan of this. would like to have seen noel explore this sort of sound further in his solo career but its not really happened as yet. still revisit this regularly. i'm outta time - always had a lot of time for this one too. yeah it's a bit cliche and a lennon pastiche but there's something about the chorus that gets me every time. it's better people - i'm not sure i've ever heard this before fuck knows how this one passed me by. mind you i wasn't missing out on much, sounds like she is love's older brother. it's gettin' better man!!! - not one of the strongest on be here now for me but still great. what an album.

heroes - actually quite like this cover. fairly true to the original and noel sounds like hes got a bit of fire in his belly. decent. Noted. it's better people - i'm not sure i've ever heard this before fuck knows how this one passed me by. mind you i wasn't missing out on much, sounds like she is love's older brother. Mate, my X/10 ratings are on average only +/-1.77 off everyone else commenting here so my opinions can't be that horrendous. Even without your take on it, for the most part the Oasis cover of Heroes is far from loathed. I gave it a 7 and the board excluding me gave it a 5.33. It's fine.

Just Getting Older
SOTSOG b-side, a bit of mellotron, a bit of the synth female choir, very downtempo and bleak. This is middle-aged rockstar Noel - can't be bothered making conversation with the friends that I don't know, sick of all the clothes I bought today, next best friend comes from a bottle.
It's the polar opposite of Stay Young from just 2 years earlier.
When I started this thread and rated each song off the top of my head this was a 6 - I was being generous. It's a 5/10.

I actually like it as it's self-deprecating and as a fan of miserable songwriters I enjoy it for this reason I also like the production - I can see why you thought a Giants era b-side but ain't it Heathen Chemistry? But it's indeed Giants-ish sounding. I can see why people would hate it but I don't. Half way up to the bottom of another bottle of my next best favourite friend is a top lyric. I've been there.
Anyway had a great Oasis moment over the weekend. I may type it up if you fancy a break from ranking your second rate b-sides. Short story: I met a random girl while walking in the hills (both on our tods) and she told me her favourite song was The Masterplan. STAY ON MY ARM YOU LITTLE CHARMER.

Soapbox: "Did you bang her?" No but she had cute bangs. I'd like to see her again even though she said Noel's first album is her favourite album ever
