With Liam singing perhaps, mate. MTV Unplugged was shite.

I used to love that unplugged show, one of the very first bootlegs I got hold of. I heard 3/4 songs from it a year or two back & realised how bloody horrible it is.

innit if the years have taught us nothing else, it's that when oasis weren't fucking amazing, they were fucking terrible.

Little James
Liam's first song-writing credit in Oasis, this SOTSOG album track was rubbished upon release, but does seem to have been generously re-evaluated since. It's about his then stepson and aimed at that boy, hence the simple lyrics that a child would understand.
Opening with a trembling piano (similar sound to Let's all make believe), Liam's vocal is solid and not really in need of the echo effect - the melody's fine and there's al least one line that really is kind of deep and beautiful - "we weren't meant to be grown-ups". 6/10

Yeah, I guess its production is quite good. It might have worked out as a simpler song (a la Songbird), but it's still miles better than I'm Outta Time and the likes.

Danscouse = god. The only person I've heard mention this. It's little moments like these that make this record wonderful as every time I hear the fucker there's always something new to the ear. Despite where I keep thinking Liam sings 'for you and your mum and the DOG' then it really is a beautiful tune. Probably cause cats are better. NAH, NAH NAH NAH NAH.

Back. Live Forever.
The song that changed everything according to Noel (and to an extent Alan McGee) - 3rd single, it's been a staple live for ever, and rightly so. It sounds instantly familiar and perfectly formed.
I'd rather there was a proper third verse than just a repeat of the earlier one but that's not enough of a fault to cost it a single point. Brilliant first solo and amazing end solo that always sounded to me like an argument between a snotty petulant guitar and an older sterner one.
This was my favourite song for a very long time - one of my earliest jobs involved delivering bank cheques daily on foot to several international bank outlets dotted around the city - I'd head off with my Sony Walkman and the compilation tape I'd made for myself; Live Forever was always on there, usually the Glasto version that was a b-side (as quoted at the top of this post). 10/10

Lord Don't Slow Me Down
Non-album, digital only single, sung by Noel even though there was a perfectly servicable Liam-led version recorded,. It borrows heavily from then-recent tourmates Kasabian's "Shoot the runner". Short, stompy, bolshy - at least a point lost thanks to the terrible "cat won't lick" line (here it actually would have been better to just repeat the first verse in full).
Released as part of the similarly titled live DVD, it sounds like life on the road. Usually gets me relatively pumped. 7/10

Lord Don't slow me down - absolutely shit
Let there be love - One of the worst things they ever released. Sickly vibes. Soft sound. Terrible.
Listen up - 10 out of 10. Probably my favourite b-side
Live Forever - 10 out of 10. All time classic. Nothing more to be said

Love Like a Bomb
Another of Liam's efforts from DBTT, it's a breezy little love song with a fair bit of charm. Some cool guitar licks in the second half of the track; can't really fault it overall. 7/10
No one else has offered an opinion on these ones, so there's no thread score and it's throwing my whole tracking sheet off:
Just Getting Older #DIV/0! Keep the Dream Alive #DIV/0! Let's All Make Believe #DIV/0! Little by Little #DIV/0!

Lyla
Lead single from DBTT, a classic-rock sounding effort that borrows from the Rolling Stones more than the Beatles. It's not really about anything; some random French thrown in (a precursor to where Noel's at with his last album?), full sounding production a world away from the pedestrian dross of Heathen Chemistry - 7/10

Magic Pie
The only weak point on Be Here Now, the only Noel led vocal, quoting Tony Blair of all people. It's… I don't know what it is. It's not a lighters aloft ballad. It's not a psychedelic trip. It's just quite garbage. The opening vocal is actually painful to my ears.
It's really quite embarassing - I'd never play it for anyone. 4/10
