Absolutely loving Warp & Woof. Still not that well acquainted with GBV released from 2014 on wards - I've only spent any real time with Zeppelin Over China, Space Gun & August By Cake and Id say this is the 2nd best out those albums behind Space Gun.
My GBV listening slowed a little before this release as I wanted to check out some new stuff from 2019 but this has dragged me right back in and hoping to fill some gaps.

Gotta say, the more I've listened to this new one the less I've liked it. I love how to the point it is, but I think I prefer Zeppelin Over China to it. Pollard does some annoying shit with his voice on a few numbers on the new record that really irritates me Cool Jewels And Aprons is such a tune though

Tux, still on a Pollard kick? Since seeing them I've been obsessed again. Decided to go digging again for awesome tunes that perhaps I missed the first time around.
This version of ha ha man is doing it for me now. So throwaway yet so perfect.

I'd actually tuned out of all things GBV for a couple of weeks but I'm back on that train again, working my way back through the GBV back catalog in reverse chronological order. Gotta say, really enjoying Warp and Woof. Isn't there something else due out soonish?

There's ALWAYS something else due out soon I think November was supposed to be the next LP, plus another Cash Rivers (comedy country record). Need to revisit Warp, they played a big chunk of it live the other week & it sounded great so hopefully the recorded versions will make more sense to me now.

"Having already released two albums this year, Guided by Voices are going for the hat trick with Sweating the Plague, which will be out in physical formats on October 25 and digitally on November 1. The band approached this one as “a classic 12 song album experience, made to be played loud” and first single “Heavy Like the World” is the kind of classic, anthemic Guided by Voices rock song that Robert Pollard somehow never seems to run out of. Coincidentally, I was dipping back into GBV today with a bit of Earthquake Glue.

First impressions of the new record were not very good.

I think I actually quite like the new one. It's like if Universal Truths & Cycles and Earthquake Glue had crunchier, rockier baby. Pollard's voice also sounds real powerful. Right now, from the 3 releases this year, it's my least favourite of them but still a fine record and I think it will grow with more listens.
Also, there's an album already confirmed for 2020 called Surrender Your Poppy Field. What a band.

sweating the plague just seems a bit too plodding to me. seems to lack some of the fun and energy you'd normally expect from gbv.

Heavy like the World & Your Cricket Is Rather Unique (what a title ) are the only two tracks which made my huge Pollard playlist. Not a big fan of the new one, I don't like the straight up rock sound. Surprised to keep reading people saying it's the best of the 3 from this year. I swear people are just saying that because they want a short and to the point GBV record, which is fine, but the quality of songs is no where NEAR the level of Zeppelin Over China. Uncle Bob knocked out 32 songs for that, almost all of them being better than anything from this new LP.

Starting from the beginning again with the GBV records. Wasn't a massive fan of Devil Between My Toes the first time around but really appreciating some of it this time. First 5 tracks are killer. Absolutely loving Crux.
