I bought the Dark Stuff for 50p from a charity shop a few months back, will have to give it a go.
01: Miles: The Autobiography - Miles Davis
That is an absolute motherfucker of a book.
(Bizarre aside: my copy was originally an Ebook in ms word (?!) format, and it required some format changes to read on a kindle, not all of which took. For years, I thought he had a trumpeter friend he nicknamed Dark Terry. Only years later, did I discover that it was in fact *clark* Terry, whoops.
I love how completely honest he is throughout. Nothing ever felt sugar-coated. Really vivid, to the point where I felt I was there with him hanging out in these cool as fuck Jazz bars in the 40s and 50s with all the great players. Plus the countless stories about his sex-life.

That Mick Middles book on the Roses is an abomination. Sorry Murph, I can't let it pass unremarked. It's packed full of lies. His sole source was Gareth Davies, the manager they had just sacked.
My fave five music bios in terms of enjoyment, and how much it seems like they wrote it themselves.
1) Bob Dylan - Chronicles. I'm guessing it's at least 50% bullshit, but it's 100% Bob. 2) Keith Richards - Life. Mick has a small dick. 3) Miles Davis - Autobiography. His commitment to the 'motherfucker' gimmick was amazing...it even shows up in the picture captions. 4) Peter Hook - how not to run a club. He's just bitchy enough that it makes me want to read the joy division and new order books to see how bad he gets. 5) Ron Wood - the autobiography. If he didn't write this himself, he needs to fire his ghostwriter, because it reads like a 5th grade book report. "And then I joined the faces and it was great! And then Mick and Keith asked me to join the stones and it was great! And then I did a lot of drugs and it was great!"
