Absolute vermin.

The rioting and gun fire was a reaction to an unprovoked search of houses in the area ahead of Easter Rising commemorations. At least that's what dissident Republicans would have you believe. I doubt they see the irony in the fact that they're clearly storing weapons somewhere in the Creggan and the PSNI are attempting to find them.

They've released a statement today blaming the police for Lyra's murder, despite the fact it was one of them who pulled the trigger.

I'm fucking sick of this place to be honest. The thought of my children growing up here depresses me greatly.

Place is fucked. The two main political parties more interested in oneupmanship than providing actual leadership. The DUP have done what they always do, stoke the fires and then when the inevitable happens they step back.

Sooner we move away from orange and green politics the better, the thing is that will never happen.

Should also be noted that South East Antrim UDA have been hammered by the National Crime Agency lately.

Their drug empire has been target number one. The violence in areas that S.E.A UDA control (which happens to be where i live) is also in retaliation to that as well.

What do you make of the Alliance party, SJ?

Are they a serious alternative to the green / orange parties for people fed up of sectarianism, or more of a middle class protest vote who fail to engage across communities?

I only ask as an interested observer. I agree there has to be a move beyond the old playbook of the Troubles. Most people in Ulster surely can’t be fucked with this kind of shit anymore.

The problem with the Alliance Party is as you've alluded to, they're a wishy washy middle-class protest vote. They certainly don't go out of their way to court the vote of working class loyalists or republicans. They have some decent politicians amongst their ranks but they are few and far between.

Loyalists view them as left leaning liberals not to be trusted (they view the Green Party in the same way) and Republican's just don't entertain them at all.

What Loyalism needs is someone to open their eyes to the social issues. David Irvine, despite being a convicted murderer and leading figure in the UVF was the best politician they had but he's dead 14 years now and nobody has ever been able to replace him.

I come from a working class protestant background, but I never really bought into parades and bonfires and loyalty to the crown. I was educated at an integrated school and I'm a socialist, as are a majority of my social circle. The one exception to that are my mates from football. The vast majority of Linfield fans being fiercely loyal and proud of their Britishness. It is only when I'm around them that I see the utter contempt many Loyalists have for a left wing point of view, yet these people either come from or still live in deprived areas, but they see socialist views and being republican as the same thing, it's utterly infuriating.

They've been left high and dry by the DUP, but will still vote for them, the UUP are as wishy washy as the Alliance Party, the Progressive Unionist Party just don't have Irvine anymore and Billy Hutchinson the current leader isn't fit to lace his boots. The Traditional Unionist Voice are a comedy act. The Ulster Democratic Party I don't think even exist anymore. The fact I've rattled off 5 different parties shows how fractured Unionism is, and none of them really get the real issues facing working class protestants because they're too busy slinging mud at Sinn Fein over a fucking funeral that happened nearly a year ago.

Funnily enough though the violence has died down the last two nights after the NI Executive were able to free up £10mil to give to various community groups. This money will be given to community activists (former Loyalist paramilitaries) to dish out as they see fit. As per usual money talks, they don't give a fuck about the NI Protocol or the Irish Sea Borders or 2 tier policing, or whatever it is they claim to be protesting about. All they care about making sure they're at the trough when it's feeding time, and it's feeding time.

time.

You’ve mentioned this about working class linfield fans and I’ve argued with them on Facebook on your page and fuck me it’s wierd had a chat about this with a union organiser from your part of the world and he was freaked out by it too. The really wierd thing about it is the tories have managed to channel brexit to make the small towns in the north left behind by new Labour to share this mad right wing view but Belfast isn’t a small town and unless I’m an idiot has done alright in the last twenty years.
