This band are piquing my interest a little bit of late, they're called Do Nothing and I think they're from Leeds.
I think they've only released three singles so far, the most recent two above are pretty good. The singer has a bit of a laconic, Mark E Smith, drawl to his delivery. Can hear bit's of The Fall and Pavement in what they do, along with a bit more of rhythm driven post punk vibe.
Saw them live a couple of weeks back and they were decent, if not entirely special, but there is definitely promise there, a bit like both Hotel Lux and Italia 90, probably need a bit more time to develop. I'm seeing them again in a few weeks, though.

The generation of bands is really asking for a proper singer tbh. I know it's not their PORPOIZE but fuck, imagine Black Midi New Squid fronted by a Liam

First comment ‘this is why I haven’t listened to any new music since the turn of the millennium’. Haha
What is the mindset of someone who hasn’t listened to any new music for 20 years, bothering to read an article exclusively about bands making music in 2019 and then bothering to leave a comment?

Because they love to be able to have chitter chatter with their office friends by having an opinion on absolutely everything without actually having a grasp of anything. Thus why they spend their time reading through the Guardian website, they'll probably vote lib dem.

There's also a band called Sports Team, who i love almost everything about except.. they have no songs They're a right Motley Crew as well, do not take themselves seriously at all. Really remind me of early Britpop, the singer could be an absolute star, he ha all the charisma of Jarvis and Brett Anderson and a bit of the arrogance of Damon and Liam and he prances around the stage like Jagger. They could be massive, I just wished i liked the songs. They've got a handful of songs on spotify now. About to have a listen.

They'll probably turn out to be the Kaiser Chiefs of the 2020s. I do quite like a couple of songs on that EP though

Yeah, alright, whatever. But why all of them? Why on every song? You can dress it up all you want but at the end of the day it is a rehash of Mark E Smith and the likes, it's not like people haven't heard it before a thousand times. Which again it is totally fine, but I find that scene could get too narrow and basic, which is a shame because instrumentally they all have their specificalities.

I don't understand this logic at all Barny. Just because Mark E Smith is probably the most notorious of the shall we say, talking artists, anybody that decides to deliver vocals in a spoken manor is just a rehash? That is ridiculous. It's like saying anybody that decides to rap is just rehashing the Sugarhill Gang, or soul singers are all a retread of Sam Cooke. Vocally & stylistically hardly any of the bands in that Guardian article sound anything like Mark E Smith, they've just chosen to use spoken word as their method of delivery other than the conventional style of singing. Sure, he is probably a big influence. But so is Sam Cooke to soul, but that doesn't mean every soul singer sounds like him.

Black Midi- Of Schlagenheim: Would rather see live. Not in right mood at the moment and it doesn't go with the tender lesbian porn i've got on in the background Squid- Houseplants: Nothing wrong with this. More please Egyptian Blue- Contain It: Yeah, this lot and Dry Cleaning so far. Must catch them live soon

Do Nothing - Gangs: I do buy it. Mush - Everyone Loves a Casualty: This is annoying me tbh. Pozi - Yia: More than a bit of Sleaford Mods about this. But with a violin. I love what they're doing with that violin.

Dry Cleaning- Goodnight: Have you ever spat cum onto the carpet of a Travelodge? I miss my Grandmother. These might be new favourite band Dry Cleaning- Viking Hair: Yeah, confirmed. There's variety in their songs. And sorry Barney, but the vocals are perfect. Mush- Jackleg: Not completely taken with these. Feel to me like a 2019 band trying to sound like a 2004 band trying to sound like a 1977 band
