I love this Smile, but it's pretty much a cut n paste compilation of the completed studio bits that have already been available on bootlegs that have been around years. Lovely to have it 'finished' in some way and in better quality, though obviously.

Can't help but feel sad that we'll never get Wilson's true original finished version, though

Download the discog, tbh. And work through at your own pace. That's what I did a while back

The Surf's Up, Wild Honey, 20-20, and Sunflower albums are all great in my book

They're not really demos though in the 'truest' sense of the word, they're all alternative arrangements of all the fragments of the conception and a lot of the songs that turned up on later albums were usually re-recorded with different arrangements.

'Smiley Smile' is a really poor album I think even though it housed a handful of the Smile tracks, but they were most re-recorded and altered from the Smile session versions.

I'm a sucker for this shit though, I love listening to Brian working with the musicians and sending out instructions from the control room and listening to a song like Good Vibrations taking shape

Well, aye, tbf the making-of bits of Good Vibrations are pretty great, but again, they've been aboot years. Pretty haunting stuff innit, weirdly. Deffo a real genius at work, at the peak of his creativity. The backing-track is genuinely incredible. So much to it, so much going on

Listened to it once....it's exactly like what you'd expect the first cast album in 10 years (?) would sound like. In other words, a crap cast album.
