Nah I’m a total amateur. I commute to the office most days, but that’s only a four mile round trip. In warmer months I’ll do longer recreational efforts, but it’s all very laid back. I don’t do Lycra
Hi guys, please read. I implore all of you to get as many non-perishable goods as possible inside of your homes. Until there is a vaccine I don't see us leaving our houses.
I was just reading - and I never knew this - the WHO (not the paedo my generation rockers) say that 290,000 to 650,000 die every year from normal, take some paracetamol and get on with it flu every year. So why have the governments caused a panic over this? There either really stupid or very clever (I'd have used the word machevalian but as you can see I cant spell it)...
fucking hell dan don't read some read all or none.
the problem is the lack of respirators and intensive care beds combined with the fact the virus is new.
the current modelling they are working on is that without drastic action there would be 260,000 preventable deaths in this country alone in the next few months. that means the very real risk of our parents dying, having funerals we can't attend and being piled into a mass grave.
Also if you get sick for any other reasons or have a car accident or whatever, you won't be received on hospitals because they will be totally overcrowded. Patient #1 from Italia was a healthy runner of 3X years old, he spent more than a month on intensive care and still hasn't fully recovered. This is far from a "old men dying" thing (as it that alone wasn't dramatic anyway), if people don't realize that it will be harder to pass.
Ok thanks guys...genuine questions these not just trying to be contrary
Is the whole self isolation thing literally just to limit people getting it at once to help the health services? And is it going to have a real benefit....I see people locking themselves away but look outside my window lifes gone on? So in theory you lock yourself away for 2 weeks, come out and catch it?
And if so, how long is SI sustainable for without a vaccine in sight. Its only been a few weeks and everything going tits up. If its 18 months - at best - surely you cant shut the world down for 18 months and have people fighting in the asda? All aspects of work and recreation grinding to a halt?
18 months is probably a bit of politics so that the reality of say, 4 months doesn’t look that bad. Despite being actually horrendous. If we have to grind to a halt to stop my dad And your dad being in a mass grave then so be it.
I'm a union rep in our place and I've been told it's likely staff will soon be told to work from home if possible, nobody can, and that those with a health condition outlined by the government will be told to stay at home. Any absence will be written off and not lead to disciplinary action.
I've been self isolating anyway but using paid special leave and then once that was exhausted I'd have used holidays. This means I'll not lose holidays.
Just need the schools to close and my wife will be off as well which means we'll be able to hole up in the house and only leave for shopping and to go for walks around the block to stop going stir crazy.
