I know some of you people have access to film archives and p2p platforms to DL exotic films and whatnot, so I thought I might ask.
I'm looking for this Brazilian film from 1974 called "A Noite do Espantalho" (The Night of the Scarecrow). It's one of those psychedelic/rural musical films they used to make in the 70s. I own the soundtrack on LP and it's mega.
The film is on youtube here. I can speak Brazilian Portuguese, but I'm nowhere near proficient enough to follow a full film, let alone an experimental one in northeastern accent. I really need English subtitles...even Portuguese subtitle would do! There's another Noite do Espantalho from the 90s but I'm looking for the one from 1974.
So if you see this film on your magic websites/platforms, please let me know! Ta-ra!
Just tried my usual places & had no luck. 1377x had the torrent but no seeders, otherwise all I could find was the soundtrack itself. Even the subtitle website I use doesn't have any results, otherwise you could have just downloaded an srt file & ripped the video from youtube and matched them up.
Hey Karl, thanks for investigating!! I knew this existed somewhere (I believe it competed in Cannes in 1974) but it's been forgotten and it's very hard to find. Worst case scenario, I'll buy the DVD from Brazil (which should come with Portuguese subs hopefully) and translate it myself. Give the soundtrack a listen if you feel like, it's really good and almost unknown in the west. It's psychedelic folk, the way they used to do it in northeastern Brazil (Pernambuco) so it's very rural, even savage at times, but quintessentially acoustic folk.
I've been watching a ton of Gialli recently so have been enjoying a lot of Italian soundtracks from the likes of Bruno Nicolai, Goblin & the weirder experimental scores from Morricone.
how fucking cool is that anyway? The film opens with a guy killing an ox with a hammer. For real. Unfortunately I can only watch it for 10 minutes at a time before my nose starts bleeding for focusing too much on the language. What happens in this film, I have absolutely no clue.

That's great - I don't know much about the genre but I've recently purchased an Italian book that deals with that stuff, obscure soundtracks from the 70s, library music and so on. I'll take note of the stuff the book recommends and let you know. I personally have been exploring Brazil a lot at the moment.

I've only scratched the surface with library music. Janko Nilovic's Rythmes contemporains is a great mix of jazz & psych. Jay Richford & Gary Stevan's Feelings is one of the more well known records thanks to some recent re-issues, that's well worth hearing too.
I had a similar thing with a film called invasion of the blood farmers years ago. The trailer looked awesome,I had a huge poster I’d imported from the states on my wall. A few years later I finally got hold of a copy of the film... it was awful
