Nikita Khruschev, Rick Stein and Wurzel Gummidge are the names to singand shout this autumn. They are all alluded to on the all-newseven-track EP from British Sea Power. The Zeus EP will be released onMonday 4 October, an edit of the title track is available for freehere <http://bit.ly/bspzeus> The EP was recorded in East Sussex and on the Isle Of Skye and startswith two seven-minute tracks of wildly different character. The titletrack sets new standards for progressive garage-rock a recordingthat suggests waking from the crazed impetus of a lusty dream full ofdead Soviet leaders and TV chefs and scarecrows. The followingCleaning Out The Rooms is an expansive and reflective beauty, a thingof the wind-buffeted shorelines. Elsewhere there is lambent prettinessand care-in-the-community exclamation; 43 minutes in total. (Pleasenote that, due to considerations of surprise and secrecy, only thephysical CD & 12 formats run to 43 mins. Buying the EP digitally willresult in a slightly shorter collection of music. Hmm, we wonder whythis could be?) The EP acts as an alarming and unwashed set ofoutriders, a wild-eyed advance guard for the fourth BSP studio album, set for release in January. Of the EP tracks, only Cleaning Out TheRooms will feature on this new album.
