madrid? berlin is a lot of fun though I dont know how cold it'd be in december.
I did fancy Germany tbf. I've never been (even with family) and it's always been a place I thought I'd like. I'll give berlin (and madrid tbf...) a gander.
I stayed at this place when I was in Berlin, probably not a great shout if you're with the bird as its got no private rooms but it's really good for anyone else who's thinking of going soon:
Also, Moz, you could go to Prague and Berlin, there's only a 5 hour train ride connecting the two and it's a lovely journey, back in May I spent 4 nights in each place. Two very different cities, Pragues a bit overrated in some ways but still well worth seeing.

Next time you're there stay in Aloha, it's brilliant. Just someone's apartment made into a hostel but much better than the chain hostels you see around the big cities.
Berlin's a fun city but only for about 9 months a year, wouldn't recommend anyone coming here in winter as it's much too cold.
Otherwise I'd recommend Baxpax hostel in Kreuzberg, no idea if they have private rooms though (and theres a park around the corner to buy cheap drugs, too)

I stayed in Wombats in Munich a few years back, was ok but lacked the atmosphere of a smaller hostel & I nearly punched my mate at 5am because he wouldn't let me finish my sentence trying to chat up a rank Aussie bird.

i'd love to go to berlin. out of the places i've been to, i'd recommend rome. fucking great city and you don't have to pay through the nose. and go to sant eustachio and have the espresso there. it'll blow your eyes direct through your face.
Rome's excellent, went to Venice once but it was Summer and I was only 8 so can't really comment. Tbh Moz, I'd just go wherever you can get cheap flights, in my experience absolutely anywhere is worth exploring. I was in Sicily in May which was excellent, great food and pretty cheap. I'm off to Bremen and Hamburg next week which both look pretty cool, I'll let you know what I think of each of them.
