I've already got tickets for Glastonbury but really fancy another festival as well next year. I fancy Benicassim but the only problem there is the cost of it. I've read people say its too hot to camp out which means paying a few hundred quid for a hotel on top of the ticket, and the other problem is I don't think you can get a flight to Valencia directly from Newcastle which would mean a bit of a fanny on. So after that I'm looking at T In The Park which I know it supposed to be a good festival, or Isle Of Wight but I haven't got a clue what thats like as a festival. Anyone got any recommendations leek? x x

I've been to the Isle of Wight festival every year for the past five years but it was really badly organised last year. We went down on the first day and arrived in the afternoon and walked around for two hours trying to find a spot to pitch our tents. The tossers had fields empty but wouldn't open them because they 'wanted to save them for those coming down on the Friday'. What about the fucking people who had arrived a day earlier to get a decent spot?! We found a shitty spot next to the toilets (not literally) and planned to move in the morning, but by the time the hangovers had kicked in the following day, we couldn't be bothered. Also, heading back was a nightmare. Thousands of people waiting to cross back to the main land, one ferry every forty five minutes. To keep us entertained in the queue, around five hours, there was one lad with his guitar covering numbers from The Kooks to KT Tunstall.
I normally enjoy the travelling, having a few drinks along the way, etc, it's all part and parcel of it, but it felt more like a chore this time around. Unless the lineup is really good this year I'll be trying elsewhere.

If T In The Park (read as bald, money grabbing twat Ellis) doesn't pull something special out the bag for next year then I doubt I'll be going. The cost of tickets and pints has rocketed, far far too high. It was only 5 years ago that a weekend camping was £90 or so, it was £170 for this year and no doubt next years will be touching £200. Add on money for drink, food, tent etc. Then your looking at £400+, easily half a grand ffs! It's coming to the stage where going on holiday seems better value. Going to a festival with a load of mates and getting fucked is a great experience though, and its hard to refuse when its on your doorstep. Every year I feel like I'm seeing less bands though and that makes me sad. I can honestly say that I did not recognise about 75% or even more of this years line up. Will definitely need to do Glastonbury sometime though, not this year as tickets are gone but maybe next.

I don't know if I'll be doing my 5th Benicassim, but Primavera Sound is adding a great lot of artists and have never tried that...

I would seriously give half testicle for seeing Fleet Foxes and Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, who knows if they'll ever come back. Plus The Flaming Lips is suposed to be a must see, The National, Belle & Sebastian. Pulp and Animal Collective, I don't really care. Then there will be lots of JPish brand new bands for sure.

Full of tossers there and 95% shit lineup. I don't like the sound of the wait for the ferry either and its a hell of a journey but I might still be tempted to try it out. The headliners are getting announced this week like, think Pulp and Kasabian are strongly rumoured.

How do you usually get there, how much does it cost you on average for flights, accomadation and beer, and where do you stay? It seems a right fuck on trying to get to an airport that flies directly to Valencia, and trying to find somewhere nearby to stay with all of the dates and times being correct when booking things.

Considering I live in Valencia... You can look for flights to Alicante, Castellon or even Barcelona or Madrid, not that far away tbh, and you can then take a bus, a train or another plane. Anyway, I have always camped, yeah it's hot and it's impossible to rest but it's an experience to live (when you can't affort a rent, that is).

I'd say got to Benicassim over T and Isle of Wight. The actual cost of ticket is much cheaper I think and you get more for your money. And combine it with your summer holiday and go to barca for a few days before and after. Thats what I did and it was great.
We flew to barca on easyjet had a few days in Barca then got the train to Benicassim (had an apartment down there) did the festival which was top notch. Head back to Barca via Salou (i think) then home. 10 days, summer hols, festival. amazing

Kasabian being the other rumour and the only actual british band formed after 1990

I'll go one day like, maybe next year. I quite fancy Isle Of Wight cos I've got an image of it being quite different and I imagine T In The Park to be more like V than Isle Of Wight as a festival. The only thing that worries me is looking on the IOW festival forum the people on it seem like fucking idiots. Loads of them are specualtuting and building their hopes up that Oasis are gonna play a Sunday night legend slot
