If this is the start of the outing of rock stars (excluding underage groupie sex of srk's wrinkly idols) then you do fear Liam would be an easy target. Nicole Appleton: "I said Songbird demo was better but he forced me to like album version more #abused" edit: link doesn't work but head to the tobeyoung.org ( ) for the thread. Some decent points; the only real story is the-then 30 year old Ryan hits on teenager who says she 18 when she's 14. If he knew then he's fucked and I couldn't defend him but I'm not in that corner as it stands. "Daylight comes and exposes Saturday's bruises" ffs On the plus side it may be a good time to get the Love Is Hell vinyl on the cheap...

haha why would you fear Liam would be an easy 'target' ?
He's not a target. He either did something wrong or he didn't.

Because he's seen as an aggressive alpha male womaniser to the haters? What about the shit The Sun pulled with that video recently?
Adams may well be proven to be a cunt but this post sums up my feelings in general:

There's a huge difference between an alpha male womaniser and being emotionally abusive.

that quote you've just posted is horrendous sully as is the fact you still seem to be defending ryan adams. i fucking love his music but this isn't some baseless allegation. numerous sources have confirmed his abuse and there are quotes from his text messages such as that rank r kelly one where it repeatedly states he was aware of her age and became anxious at getting court. the whole stuff with emotionally abusing a 20 year old phoebe bridgers and threatening suicide if she didn't respond to his texts quickly enough etc is fucked up too.
ANYONE who has the guts to speak out against an abuser should be listened to, respected and taken seriously. there's no playing the victim card as let's face it only a tiny percentage of victims stories are ever heard.

I completely agree but also think it's pretty gullible to think every accusation is 100% genuine. Ex's spouting off about renowned bipolar boyfriend is upsetting on both sides - he's clearly mentally unstable and always has been. It's interesting how Liam grabbing his girlfriend by the throat didn't appear to get many replies by people on here - is that ignoring the reality of someone you idolise on an internet forum or a case of not believing everything you see/read? The fucked up part is the underage girl in which she lies about her age several times. I'd like to see the texts printed to judge further as the R Kelly stuff can easily be him acknowledging he's just older than being a paedo. If he genuinely knew she was 14 and forced himself etc then there's no defending it. Oh and tucks, they reckon the article is wrong on his age on the RA forum. Anyway, David Bowie is next.

Of course there's always going to be the odd case where a false accusation is made but these will be in a massive minority. It's not about believing every accusation, it's about creating a culture and environment where women are able to come forward and feel supported to take the fucking massive step that is to be brave enough to speak out against an abuser.
The Liam case just isn't even comparable to what we have here. Whilst also deplorable it was a one off physical altercation. This is years of prolonged emotional abuse on numerous victims, at least one of who appears to be underage and who Ryan was aware of her age. Also I'd argue many more on here idolised Ryan more than they've done Liam in the last decade or so.

I believe all those stories and Ryan is quite the idiot, no surprise there. But is that something that should end his career or send him to prison? Doubt it

I doubt I’d stop listening. I’ve always thought each to their own regarding this subject, if people decide not to that’s their choice. I still love watching films from Roman polanski, 70s flicks starring klaus kinski (who raped his own daughter). I still have rock & roll Christmas on my XMas playlist because it’s a great song. I will still check out morrissey’s new material. Now if some of morrisseys racist views started bleeding into his work I’d draw the line. But until then I can seperate the artists work from their personal life. But as I’ve said, these are personal decisions - nobody is right or wrong either way.
We are all hypocrites by nature, all choosing who to be offended by and when we decide enough and switch on our moral compass. Look at somebody such as GG Allin, celebrated for being a huge cunt.
In Ryan’s case, if does feel like no surprise. He’s always been a huge man child that throws tantrums when things don’t go his way. I’ve witnessed this first hand live on stage at a bbc event I was at. Now that alone of course doesn’t make him a monster. However some people appear to be assuming that all these women accusing must be nobody’s, people desperate for attention, bitter because they thought throwing themselves at Ryan would = success. Somebody such as pheobe bridgers who is already successful has nothing to gain from this. Natalie prass who from her tweet is almost certain to be another once again has nothing to gain. Now I know the Jeremy clarkson style response will be that “but look how much publicity they get from this” which for me is a disgusting response and I’ve no time for anybody that wants to portray victims as opportunists.
With those texts to a CHILD (if you’re not convinced somebody is an adult it’s probabbly best not ask them to start touching themselves) plus the other 6 people that have come out surely is enough to think, yeah .. I don’t want to be the guy standing up for Ryan in this instance.
Of course this story has a long way to go so I don’t want to comment on what should happen to Ryan the person or Ryan the artist regarding this. That is the least important part of this whole issue though, it’s the fact that a lot of woman have been made to feel uncomfortable and put in terrible situations by somebody else which is the real story.
Hopefully through something like this things change and people’s understanding of what’s right and wrong changes too, so the next young tortured songwriter that comes along doesn’t make the same mistakes. We actually do change as people and as a society as times move on. Point being, when I was 17 and Liam would shout GET YOUR TITS OUT ON THE SCREEN NOW” I didn’t see much wrong with it, if I’m honest i thought “wow, how cool must it be to be able to request a woman take her top off and somebody actually do it!’ There’s no way i would find that acceptable now as a 35 year old now - times have changed to the point that a 17 year old in 2019 would hopefully be discgusted that a man is requesting that a woman show her tits in an environment of 80,000 pissed up men.
People coming out and subsequently people talking about these issues can only be a positive thing. Like i say, I don’t know what this means for Ryan. I’d hope that what we have heard is the absolute worst of it and that he will realise his mistakes and become a better person for it. He’s never been the best rational thinker but now is the time to look in the mirror and repeat the wise words of the late great Owen Hart.. enough is enough and it’s time for a change.
Whether he can be accepted by the audience that adored him will play out in time. It’s too early to make any judgement and once again, this isn’t the priority of this entire issue. If these were all stories of Ryan that happened in his 20s that came out now then I could see a different narrative , that this was then and this is now. There is definitely something really off about a man in his 40s acting this way. Especially when they make such a shit “statement” when being called out for said things.

Only thing I can remember feeling like that is about 15-20 years ago, when there was a big story about weller sexually assaulting a woman, and for about a week, every time I looked at one of his CDs, I'd get queasy. Of course, within a week, the story was retracted and that turned out to be nothing, but still...it was a bit odd. This feels slightly different than that> Thankfully, I was never a huge RA fan to begin with.

Who here is going to stop listening to him? I have a mate at work who told me yesterday this is like when he had to bin all his Steps CD's after he found out about Ian Watkins. ffs Fair points since my last post. I wouldn't stop listening to him really. The only reason I wouldn't right now is in case I'm overheard playing him as that may paint me in a bad light, but the reality is he's a relative unknown in the grand scheme of things, thus rightly or wrongly, in a year this won't be big news especially if it starts revelations against bigger artists like Jagger and Bowie which could easily happen now (plus which already exist to some extent). Adams is clearly fucked in the head and mentally ill and I wouldn't be totally surprised if he ends up in the 2019 death pool as it stands, but I don't think he's a monster like Weinstein for example. The evidence of the underage girl story is what will define whether he returns to the stage or calls it a day. If he's fucked off about somebody shouting 'summer of 69' at a gig then imagine somebody shouting 'paedo'. Just for the record I can't fucking stand Mandy Moore and can't help but think her story reads more like bitter Loose Women shit tbh, but the rest were right to come forward if they felt necessary, of course. Anyway the gig he did with the Cardinals around Cold Roses was the best I've ever been to, I reckon. That couldn't change. I hope he seeks the help he requires.

I saw Oasis on that stadium tour in 2000. I was just about to turn 15. I swear Liam stopped the show for a full five minutes (which seems an eternity at a gig) until some lassie eventually got her chebs out on the big screen. I have often thought back about that moment and imagined the absolute uproar that would accompany such actions today. It is mental how quickly society evolves, but in such cases it can only be a good thing. On a wider issue, I think you can separate the art from the artist. I’ve never been a Ryan Adams fan so I can easily stand back in this case and take the moral high ground (and noise up Mahoney in the process). But his actions are appalling. Imagine a friend of yours in his 30s or 40s was found to be sending sexual messages to a child? And she is a child at that age, a point you can’t repeat enough. Although they’re not similar cases, I was a bit shaken by Morrissey’s open support for that UKIP splinter group. I’ve shrugged off his political views in the past but this was different. However, as Karl points out, he’s not writing songs in support of the party or telling his audiences to go out and vote for them. I have to accept he has a personal life and unfortunately he’s using his platform as a star to endorse a hideous political campaign. But I can seperate that from his art. Would I wear a Morrissey T-shirt down the boozer? No. Will I go see him in concert again? Yes.
