New British bands that are good.

Fucking yes, the Black Midi debut album is fucking immense. I was apprehensive beforehand to see what they would do, lot's of talk of them making it sound completely different to the live gigs etc.. and the two singles released just prior, were definitely a bit more pared back compared to the live versions, I did however grow to love those arrangements. But the album is a tour-de-force and they (along with producer Dan Carey) have managed to keep the intensity of the live gigs but also add enough nuance for it to work as a recorded piece. They kept the two digitial singles off it (Crow's Perch and Talking Heads), which I think make sense and they re-recorded the earlier vinyl only releases (Bmbmbm & Speedway) and both versions are superior to the older ones.

Took a couple of listens to lock in, there's a lot going on, but I love it.

Yeah I love it. Instantly grabbed me but also clearly has so much more to offer with repeated listens. Could be an album of the year contender.

Squid have just announced their debut EP, it's gonna be the first non single release on Speedy Wunderground.

I quite like the Penelope Isles record

Just imagine what they'd sound like if they'd ever heard LCD Soundsystem!

I quite liked the Penelope Islands lp too. Was surprised to see they're English though as its a pretty American sound.

Quite like what I've heard so far from Working Men's Club. Nothing new but decent post punk in the vein of Gang of Four and Joy Division. Hoping to catch the live at Latitude at the weekend.

I saw them at Great Escape earlier in the year, pretty rough around the edges and the stage was absolutely tiny, but definitely something interesting, worth a watch, definitely.

That new Black Country, New Road single ('Sunglasses') is something else. I've had it on repeat for most of the day. Love the singers vocals.

Never heard of 'em.  Gave that a listen and it's great.  A bit mad, but really good.

Friday nights in 91/92 getting the 6:15 Thameslink from Farringdon to Leatherhead with this on my walkman. This songs makes me remember of being at my Grandparents house and the swing I had in the back yard, I must have been 3 or 4 years old.
Sometimes there’s also a particular smell that activates this memory for me, something like the smell of rain on thundery days. Anyway, I remember swinging for hours, trying to reach higher and higher and felt like the king of the universe, everything was so easy, everyone was alive and they looked so happy.
