Dear Fellow music makers of the forum, I have been recently trying to make my 4000th comeback into writing and recording. I am hoping this will be more successful than previous. Anyone have or know of any good tutorials for writing drum tracks? Mine always sounding completely gash. I've been fiddling with Hydrogen on Ubuntu but not had much luck so far, so thought I'd turn to the professionals Thanks

Try Ableton. It pissed me off for what I wanted to do with it, but it may be an easier way than Hydrogen.
Its on Waffles and What. Just search for Ableton Suite. I think 8.2.
Theres also a shitload of tuts out there. IE Ableton Drum tracks, and you should be able to find something. Its pretty good.

what i do is i just use loads of presets and then tweak them until i get the sound and pattern i want. if you're looking for realistic drumkit sound i can recommend the addictive drums vst-instrument, sounds really awesome and it's simple enough to use. if you're going for electronic sound you need to learn to layer different samples on top of each other.
what do you mean when you say that your tracks sound gash?

We used to use one of these: but it was a bit rubbish and kept getting things wrong, or breaking itself, so we traded it in for one of these:
