It's over-hyped, no question about it. But it's very good and once again I thank the Soapbox as I wouldn't have bothered otherwise.
I agree with titchy that Monster is without a doubt the best song on the album. It stands above the rest. It has a drive and force that's lacking on the other songs. I suppose it stands out as it is the purest hip-hop track on there. The album is, like it has been pointed out, pop more than anything else and there are some low points but the high points saves the album.
I still think he would make a fantastic hip-hop album if he focused less on the pop sensibilities.

Forgot to mention that Runaway gives off a vibe sometimes that's very similar to Kent's 747. That dripping keyboard sound in the background is very similar.

Seein him tonight first dj shadow, then jon stewart, now THIS. CUNT. how was it? This was the most surreal fucking gig of my life. 50% of the crowd was fucking celebrities I think and there was A LOT of paparazzi which I had never seen in person before. I even got asked "If I was anybody important" I stood next to fucking QTIP for 80% of the gig and he was super nice John Legend, Diddy, Terena Taylor, NICKI, Swizz Beats, Bon Iver, and Rick Ross all came out at some point. He did almost the ENTIRE RECORD. Heres a pic as I was on the balcony with QTIP and his gorgeous girlfriend to my left, and my friend Kate who is a publicist and is the only reason I got to to go to this gig to my right. Questlove was also on the balcony, as was Spike Lee. I highfived Questlove after Blame Game, but Spike was on the other side. At the end of the gig, he went on a really good rant, but I was steaaaaaaaaaaming drunk as I had decided to get my rapper on and have Purple Drank before the gig and it was still affecting me so my memory of what he said is not that great. It was heartfelt and my respect for this man is through the fucking roof. Im now looking for a transcript or video or something. Easily my gig of the year. It was just mindblowing, surreal, and absolutely ridiculous. AND when I called at 8 to make up some bullshit about why Im not coming in today, my boss laughed and said its no sweat since the holiday is tomorrow and so few are coming in. 1000/10 Found a setlist AND his rant Dark Fantasy (with Terena Taylor & Bon Iver) Gorgeous Power All of the Lights (interlude) All of the Lights (with Bon Iver) Monster (with Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Bon Iver) So Appalled (with Pusha T, Prynce Cy Hi, Swizz Beatz) Devil in a New Dress (with Rick Ross) Runaway (with Pusha T) Hell of a Life (with Bon Iver) Blame Game (with John Legend) Lost in the World (with Bon Iver) Who Will Survive in America Encore: Christian Dior Denim Flow Can't Tell Me Nothing Paranoid The Good Life

Fucking he'll Ben, that looks brilliant! It's funny I saw both Q-Tip and Questlove were updating twitter during the gig, and you was fucking standing in-between them!

Yea pretty much. Questlove was taking a lot of pics and was moving around, so he was only around us for a few minutes. QTip was there until the encore and then probably scooted off to the afterparty or whatever went on afterwards. I saw him on his phone a lot though and had no clue it was Twitter. I was so fucking wrecked

That is seriously epic, Ben. New York appears to be the real centre of the universe. Karl's going to have to have to get a Chas and Dave reunion concert in his kitchen to top that shit. Bon Iver though is a very strange one, isn't he some indie/folk singer?

Bon Iver though is a very strange one, isn't he some indie/folk singer? Ive spent plenty of time in both, and New York is ahead of TCOTU in my book, not by much, but ahead. I love TCOTU for the history and how it blends that history with the modern. New York is similar in many respects, but obviously New York is not as old. I dont think anywhere except Tokyo (in terms of sheer madness) compares to NYC. Yea Bon Iver is a folk guy, I really like his album, but he's basically Kanye's hook guy for this record.
