One of my neighbours gave me a copy of their 'Talk Talk Talk' LP last year. Only got around to listening to it properly in the past few weeks, and it is the bollocks. The frontman is a total don.
This is the band who are of course well known for writing Pretty in Pink. The original version on the album is amazing, bears no resemblence to awful one used in the John Hughes film.

Saw them when Happy Mondays opened for them in Montreal a few years ago. It was the weirdest crowd ever. We were there early, as were a hundred or so Madchester expats, the Mondays finished, and then suddenly, as if a switch had flipped, it became Castro st. in San Francisco. Bizarre. Oh, and the band were awful.

I would imagine they are pretty shit these days, considering this album originally came out in 1984.

Imagine, if you will, about a dozen baggy trousered hoodie wearing madheads, suddenly surrounded by the gayest bunch of gays who ever gaid. Plus, Bez wasn't allowed in Canada and the drummer (the only other original Monday in the band at that point) broke his arm the day of the show or something, so it was basically Shaun Ryder and a bunch of nobodies. Good times!
And here's a clip of the furs from that very show!

I saw the Mondays SUPPORTING OASIS in 2000. Epic? You fucking betcha.
I've also had a five minute chinwag with Paul Ryder in the queue for a Glenrothes Chinese Takeaway. He told me he ''still had issues'' but that he wouldn't be speaking to Shuan again ''if I can fookin help it''. His band were supporting Browno. They were fucking horrific.
